Re: ATC Clearance - Frustrating Format
That is bizarre. I see no reason to give a full route clearance if it's the exact same as the flight planned route. I also don't know anyone that clears aircraft via both a victor and jet airway when they are one and the same. It may potentially be someone in training. A trainee would only be sayin...

Re: ATC - 2nd Interview
I guess things are moving again in YYZ. Are you guys hoping for IFR or VFR?
From what I remember, I *think* there's a September VFR course scheduled (so be prepared to get on your paperwork and medicals ASAP), and IFR for Spring 2011.

Re: Who's all waiting for a training offer?
Voice Req has no chance of working in a high volume specialty with a lot of required co-ordination. (Which most in YYZ are) A lot of the phraseology used in co-ordinating with other controllers is ad-hoc and the voice req won't recognize it, putting the controller behind in his/her run. I completel...

Re: English and French??
In France... I believe they speak English for ATC communications. In Québec... you have the choice E/F. Oh, and the premium for ATC who are required to be bilingual is $800 per year! Not worth it! In France, communications are made in French. English is only used by ATC with foreign airc...

Re: If you have thought about ATC, but the no income stopped
HRDC just threw trainees a bone this month. IFR training is now officially recognized as a post-secondary education. This means new applicants SHOULD have access to student loans and lines of credits. Also you'll be eligible for tax breaks that apply to other students. Might soften the financial bl...

Almost a year since I took them but natej's advice is sound.
Don't worry too much about the audio section. There was a collective groan when my group finished and I thought I bombed it but still got through.
Good luck!

Re: Who's all waiting for a training offer?
I'm also waiting for 2nd interview at CZVR. First one was done within 2 weeks of written test (Jan), so I thought they were in a mad rush, but heard NOTHING since. Checked by phone to make sure *I* wasn't the one holding things up (missing docs, etc) but they said I was good. Apparently rolling out...

Re: Left the industry/considered it/or know someone who did?
I got my Bachelor of Aviation overseas; my original major being Flight Crew. After I got my PPL, I decided that flying for a living was going to be a long, stressful, expensive road. I was able to change my major to Aviation Management and was grateful to graduate. After I returned to Canada I could...

I have heard that training in Toronto in postponed until the next fiscal year (September). However, they will still want to have candidates in the pool so hopefully there will be an assessment session shortly. When was the last one held?

Re: If you have thought about ATC, but the no income stopped you
One piece of advice I do have for anyone considering training and working p/t through basic: DO NOT mention this at the interview. Had an informal conversation the other day with the director of training who hadn't realized that I would be having to work, and I definitely got the impression that had...
