Re: Extended Time off From Flying
I also purposely left my job and went travelling around SE Asia for 3 months, which resulted in another 3-4 months unemployment when we returned home while I looked for a decent job (had a few less than desirable offers over those months). In the end I managed to get back in the cockpit after 7 mont...

That's really terrible. Looks like a DC3 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/no-kinross-employees-onboard-plane-that-crashed-in-mauritania-company-says/article4409702/ A plane chartered by Kinross Gold crashed in Mauritania’s capital Thursday, the Canadian mining company said, killing all s...

Re: Do female pilots have it easier? Myth or Fact?
$23 with average 75 hours per month = $1725 per month = $20700 per year (before deductions) to fly an Embraer??!!
Even if you maxed out every month at 90 hours that would still only work out to about $24840 per year (before deductions).

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
You can drive to the Sheriffs office in Shelby, Montana. They do it. You need to call them first and make arrangements before you show up.i have no ideas where to look for a nearest office in edmonton to do my TSA fingerprints.

Re: Credit Card Rewards
Flyertalk has a plethora of info related to credit cards and frequent traveller bonus, but the majority of it is only obtainable by those with a US address and social secuity number. In Canada we get shafted when it comes to cards and bonuses. The annual fee (around $120) is rarely waived, and the s...

What does 705 airlines mean? It refers to the Canadian Aviation Regulations application of aircraft in respect to size and passenger seats: A simple example: 705: Airline - aircraft with more than 19 passenger seats / over 19,000 lbs http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/regserv/cars/part7-705-2146...

Yes, would recommend them.
Haven't been around there in a few years, but when I was involved there, it was a good atmosphere and the planes had very good maintenance. Jim runs a good operation.

Re: Korean Air passenger jet makes emergency landing at CFB
That's an interesting profile on Flightaware.
They turned back over Haida Gwaii and were almost back to Vancouver, then made a U-turn by Sechelt, went back up the Georgia Strait for a southbound landing at Comox.
Turned down for YVR at the last minute?

Re: FltPlan.com in Mexico
In my experience, it doesn't work. It'll work for the first leg into Mexico, but not for the domestic legs. When you land at each airport, you usually have to file the standard paper flight plan (Plan De Vuelo) with the help of a local (often the FBO). One time we used a handler and sent all the fli...

I also turned this job down a couple years ago because of the low salary. I was even unemployed at the time.

Re: SimCom Dallas tips
There's quite a few decent hotels on both sides of the training centers. I did CAE last time in Dallas and used one of the Hilton properties in Irving to the South. There's also Grapevine to the North. Both are pretty similar distance and have a lot of urban /retail around so it's easy to get food a...

Re: Obtaining a no accident / no incident report
Just do this and that's all there is to it: Contact the TC office that has your file and ask for someone in licensing. They will check your file and issue a letter. Many overseas airlines demand this letter. It is not an unusual request at TC. Very simple and straight forward. I've done this myself ...
