Re: Ottawa RIver Departure under the Bridge

past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results Really. I suppose you have never tried to get any insurance for anything? You know, on the form where they ask you for your history of claims? It's good to know that you know more about this, than every actuary that has ever worked at e...

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question

landing when the crosswind is too strong to track the centreline with sideslip alone? If you have a high-wing, little airplane, then it is not very likely that you will scrape a wingtip during a crosswind landing with a sideslip to align the aircraft. Eric and I were bored one day, with the windsoc...

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question

50 hrs dual was for the retractable gear Mooney. Which I can kind of understand. Pilots often forget to lower the gear. Even ones with ATPL's. Insurance companies love me. I've never had any trouble getting approved as PIC on anything, and I fly some pretty weird stuff. re: plastic tailwheel ... I w...

I will admit that I do not suffer fools
gladly, nor am I impeded by false
modesty, which I consider the refuge
of the incompetent.

This is a far worse sin, than any contravention
of the CARs.

See the final episode of Seinfeld, where
the entire cast is convicted of "criminal indifference".

Re: Are we being too "friendly" with students?

28 pages? You didn't scratch the surface. By the time we were through the Tribunal, Tribunal Review, Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeals, there were several linear feet of documents, and a really bad precedent set by Transport concerning the applicability of Double Jeopardy to Administrative ...

Older 172 POH (not online) shows same
interconnect tube between the tanks.

The original design did NOT have vented
caps on both tanks, see the 1979 AD.

Re: Are we being too "friendly" with students?

one misty August day in 2001? A fabulous bit of flying, if I do say so myself. You were there, I presume? 40 years of some pretty interesting flying of some pretty interesting airplanes in some pretty interesting places, and not one ding. The Convergence of the Central Limit Theorem applies. http:/...

Sorry I hurt your feelings, honey.

40 years of flying, and not one dented
airplane, which is the objective, in case
you hadn't noticed.

Yes - all-weather capability in an open
cockpit biplane. That's what everyone
wants, so they can takeoff and land in
the pouring rain.

Re: Ottawa RIver Departure under the Bridge

Unsurprisingly, I have had many discussions with Transport. More than once, I have told them: "Just because it's unusual, doesn't make it illegal or dangerous" http://i.imgur.com/9gZWJaM.jpg The vast majority of pilots, will assume that something unusual must be somehow illegal. Or dangerous. Predic...

a glass panel in any taildragger feel wrong? It's surreal, I know. Complete incongruity. Don't get me wrong, I love all the engine info for diagnositics - all the CHTs, all the EGTs, the fuel flow - but I can't help but thinking that if you're flying an open cockpit biplane, you should be looking o...

Oh, CS
People here keep telling me that I don't
have very much aviation knowledge and
experience compared to them, but I actually
recall when that AD was issued, 35 years ago.

Re: Flight simulator software for Cessna 172 question

In the case of homebuilts I can understand Point taken. I do a lot of first flights and training on homebuilts, and there is a lot more than just piloting involved. To fly homebuilts, you had better be pretty mechanically inclined and knowledgeable, which rules out most pilots. For example, I did a...

A few years back a 185 on floats actually hit the bridge just South of the Arnprior airport. The people on the bridge didn't even notice and the bridge itself did not even require a paint touch-up.
