Re: Caravan captain or Metro F/O?
Hi Dizzy, Just read your post, skimmed the rest, and thought to share my opinion. You are off to a good start, PIC time is GOLD for the first thousand hours, or so, but you have to think of your future. Caravan time is not much different from what you all ready have in your logbook. What's next? Get...

Re: Ugliest Aircraft Ever Built
Here, fixed it for you : Ayres was developing the Loadmaster aircraft, a powerful fuel-efficient cargo aircraft powered by a CTP-800 Propulsion System that envisioned (Soloy) two engines through a single propeller. The Ayres Loadmaster cargo plane was intended to be about the size of a DC-3 but coul...

Re: KFC CLOSE CALL AT CYHM
"The ones that land in 6000 feet at 164000 everyday
"
Too funny!
Allow me to clarify: Which company is operating 727s in Canada that are equipped with functioning nosewheel brakes and how many of these planes are in operation?

Yeah, I was having fun with the 6000' landing scenario. The Boeing 727 performance charts will tell you what you can, and cannot, do with their airplane.
Okay pelmet, I'll bite: which 727s in Canada are equipped with functioning nosewheel brakes?

Re: KFC CLOSE CALL AT CYHM
Re Liquid Charlie's trivia: Yup, the "auto-spoilers" or speed brake on the -200 automatically deploys when the speed brake lever is positioned in the "armed" detent which is positioned with, and slightly behind of, the "down" detent. It's a selectable function, not automatic. A while ago I asked one...

Re: Is Skyward back?
"Some 110's are pressurized, this one says EMB 110P1, I think the P2 is pressurized." In the 2500 hours I flew Bandits I never heard of a pressurized model. Had Embraer opted to pressurize that plane and fitted larger engines (1000+ hp) they would have made a winner. Embraer did consider doing this ...

Jazz loses engine cowling YHZ
Last evening, shortly past 1900 (local) a Jazz RJ returned to the YHZ airport after losing an engine cowling during the takeoff roll.
The ground crews pulled a couple of pieces of aluminum off the runway and it was business as usual.
Anyone have any further info on this?
Cheers

Wow, things sure have progressed since I was flying around the Arctic! Back in the day, 98-01, I wore two pairs of gloves flying the ol' Bandit: Heavy work gloves for loading/unloading the bags and freight and simple (brown) gardening gloves in the cockpit. I wore the best insulated heavy-duty glove...

Let's go way back: 1998. That's when I sat in my initial Bandit groundschool and first learned about Embraer's provision for emergency gear retraction. Our instructor knew of just two times that it had been used... First: The plane in question had been sitting in the weeds in Ireland for roughly one...

Grist for the rumour mill: Flightcraft is going to lose their contract with Canada Post (Purolater) to Cargojet. Cargojet will assume the contract, purchase new planes, and therefor keep their head above water. Years of flying freight at below-market prices are a thing of the past. DHL will require ...

Just reread this thread: Boeing was willing to extend the 727 run for Fedex. They did, but only 15 (or so) planes resulted, far short of the purposed/promised run. They are considered "baby 747s" but are a rare breed (the best of the breed). We will see them flying in Canada before they are turned t...

Will Fedex replace their 727s with 757s? A resounding YES, without question. In fact, the contracts have all ready been signed. The 757 is a direct replacement for the 727/737. Why re-invent the wheel? They share the exact same fuselage meaning Fedex/ Flightcraft (Purolater) / UPS can utilize their ...

The max passengers possbile for the 727-100 was 131 and for the -200 it was 189. The reason the APU ended up in the main wheel well was that it was an after thought. Originally the aircraft was designed without an APU like the 707. After several airlines requested that an APU be installed the only ...

Hey All (again), I wasn't kidding about the "three holer" moniker. The 727 was initially designed to be a two-engined airplane. No problem for the APU as there would be no middle engine. The problem arose when Boeing realized that the airlines wanted to fly it over water. ETOPS didn't exist back the...

Hey All, Yup, the Super 27 has three engines. The term "three holer" is actually a reference to the three lavs in the passenger versions, not to the engines. The only 727s I've seen without an FE/SE are the -100s operated by UPS. Those machines have a reworked flight deck and Rolls Royce engines. Ch...

Thanks cyyz, I was asked about this whole ink thing because of some on-going argument. The whole "transport's rules" angle kinda confused me. ink argument
Hi everyone, The other day someone asked me about the use of blue ink in an aircraft journey log book. Apparently it is "Transport's Rules", according to the questioner, that require the use of black ink only. I didn't have a definitive answer. The last time I discussed this with a TC inspector was ...
