Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

Our biggest obstacle at CYTZ wasn’t the VSC, it was the weather! On our rain date for our C4K we had 4 airplanes fly over 50 kids around downtown Toronto. We would have had a fifth airplane, but it was grounded from a maintenance snag. The process for getting a VSC in Toronto is a huge pain in the @...

Hope Air is similar to Angel Flight I believe. https://hopeair.ca
I'm not aware of a Pilots n' Paws equivalent in Canada.

Re: CYTZ GA survey

A rather poor survey! In addition to some missed opportunity for gathering relevant information about transient flying to YTZ, I wonder what answer is sought for those of us between 50 and 61 who fly amphibians! Where on the survey do we add comments? It's up to YTZ to determine their interest in a...

Re: CYTZ GA survey

Here's some feedback for Clark to pass on: If you base an aircraft at the Island you can choose to pay $10 per landing ($20 after 10pm) or a $300 yearly fee. But you can only opt for the yearly fee on 1 January. So if you buy an airplane in February the Port Authority won't let you pay a yearly fee...

Re: CYTZ GA survey

A little disappointing in the questions. It doesn't ask anything to address transient traffic. I stopped flying into YTZ since the ramp prices went up. I still do fly by frequently enough, I just don't stop anymore! Any comments are welcome. COPA's hope is that they will establish a ramp for transi...

CYTZ GA survey

PortsToronto is in the midst of creating a new Master Plan for CYTZ. The potential design concepts can be viewed here: http://www.billybishopairportmasterplan2018.com/pdfs/06252018_pm2_dmp_dev_concepts.pdf As you will see, there is a heavy focus on developing new GA facilities at CYTZ. In order to h...

Re: Porter Commuting Schedule

From what I understand commuting is within their route network only. Commuting from outside (WestJet) is on your dollar and needs to be approved by the company. It's 6 months until WestJet (and all non Porter) flights are allowed to be standby/jumpseat. I could be wrong, however. That's correct. Pe...

Re: COPA Membership

I am a member and have been since i started my PPL. I am an owner and a pilot so it was a good fit. My beef with COPA is the magazine has poor editing. In a recent article on a online training program they failed to list the website where someone could sign up. It was repeated verbatim in Canadian ...

I am one of the new directors elected to COPA in the last round of elections. We are working on some new things to bring more value to the COPA membership. If you have been a member in the past, give us a look again. If not, give us a shot for the first time. To answer your question about the magazi...

Re: 2017 - COPA Board Resignations?

The board of directors at COPA has just gone through a set of elections in Southern Ontario, Quebec and BC. There are a number of new directors in each of those provinces/regions. In the last two years, there have been a number of changes in the philosophy and mission of COPA. These changes have bee...

Re: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh July 23-29 2018

Some use MBS (Saginaw Int'l) if you want to go over the lake. I have used PHN (Port Huron/St. Clair County) several times in the past. They see a lot of Oshkosh traffic so they are generally pretty quick getting you through. They are rarely on time though...

Re: 45 yr old and want to de a career in aviation

You guys are definitely not too old even if you did want to go to a major airline. I can tell you, from first hand observation, that the smaller companies LOVE getting older applicants with the hopes they won't jump ship for an airline. And I am not referring the the companies that provide less tha...

Re: Q400 seat height

I sit with the seat all of the way up because I like having the visibility over the nose. I'm 5'11" with long legs and a small torso. If it's a CAT II approach I would just lower it to match the eye indicator.

Re: Flight training and Career change

Congratulations on making that decision! I'm sure it was tough but I think you'll look at it and think it was a great decision. There is an industry wide pilot shortage at all levels, so it's a good time to be getting into the industry. Given that, it would be ideal to get to an employable position ...

Yes, we are configured to 74 passengers. I believe we were capped at 60 for the YTZ-MLB runs last year.

I flew MLB-YOW last year when we had to divert there due to weather in YTZ. It can be done no problem. We even were already in the descent into YTZ and had to climb back up.

Looking for space in a hangar for a 172 near the GTA

Looking to rent either an entire hangar or space in a hangar for 4-5 months over the winter. We are storing a 172. Ideally within a 2 hour drive of Toronto, but will go further away for the right price. Also will consider Windsor or Sudbury. PM me or email ctmorawetz@hotmail.com

Re: Oshawa / Durham Flying Club?

The closest thing to a Flying Club in Oshawa is COPA Flight 70. They don't have any aircraft to rent, nor do they offer flight training but they do have social events and fly outs that you would come to expect at a flying club.

Orillia/Lake St. John Airport (CNJ4) is doing a ton of upgrades currently. Was in there on Monday. They recently paved one of the runways and are buildings 3 rows of T-hangars and a new terminal building. Fuel was $1.74 per litre.

Re: Looking for ADS-B out recommendations

I installed the Appareo Stratus ESGi earlier this spring in my RV6A. It was fairly straightforward, and comes with the GPS antennae. At the time I felt it was the most affordable option, and fit in the panel where my old King transponder was. It worked well on a recent flight from BC to St. Vincent...

Looking for ADS-B out recommendations

Hi all, Our transponder bit the dust in our 172 and because we travel to the USA quite a bit, we figure we may as well upgrade from a Mode C Transponder to one that meets the requirements for the US starting in 2020. We only fly VFR in this aircraft. We are considering the Garmin GTX 335 Transponder...
