Re: Sonex: any experiences?

Colonel Sanders your ignorance is proven. "All Homebuilt makers lie". Older Cessnas have been around for how long? 1950, 60, 70, etc... No wonder they have so many hours. I'd take a flight in a RV any day over an old clapped out Cessna. I have a Thorp T18 ... with over 500 hours on it Probably one o...

Re: Sonex: any experiences?

I just think the builder spends so much time and effort building their A/C, that they don't want to whore it out like a Cessna at a flight school. Currently in USA there are now more homebuilt aircraft taking to the air each month than certified aircraft. Also if it were not for Homebuilt experiment...

Re: Sonex: any experiences?

From what I've see they are priced well, but they don't go very fast. If your a weekend warrior flying around for pancakes, it would be great. They have come up with a single seat with folding wings, so you can actualy trailer it home. They are testing two new projects, an electric aircraft, and a s...

Re: Banner Towing

I currently tow for a company out of Alberta. We use a C150 with a STC'd 180hp engine. I've personally towed up to 35 letters at airports around 4500 AGL, no problem. Banners up to 30 ft X 90 Ft too. Its not for everyone thats for sure. Most of the flight is conducted at about 10 KTS above stall. It...

Re: RCAF Challenger Fleet

I've been inside one of the Challenger's that we have, and they are nothing great. They are very plain and ordinary for a "Corporate" Jet. The interior was plain grey cloth, not leather. No shinny stuff either, just the grey military look. Most oil company corporate jets are a lot nicer than these. ...

Sad day for aviation, sad to see race fans lose their lives. I had a chance too see the galloping ghost last year, it was a very cool aircraft. I even made it my avitar picture here on Avcanada. Too bad we will never see it again, or for that matter Mr.Leeward. :(

Re: Masters Degree

I agree with the others, keep the aviation as a hobby. I know of a guy who is trying the IT full time to Part time FO, and its not working. He has spent at least 5 years trying, and has finally found a place that gave him a B200 course and a ride for a 2 year contract. The worst part is that he hasn...

Re: Finally hit the 100 hr mark but.....

I still remember my scare and it made me a better pilot. Just a few more flights after my first solo, my instructor sent me out to practice Short/Soft field landings. In hind sight it was stupid considering my hours (inexperience), and crosswind conditions. But at that point you trust your instructo...

Re: Garbage tubes.

Our Navajo's had a horrible run of bad tubes. For some reason it was only nose wheel tubes. But always cold weather operations, some where up north were its no fun to change a tire. We switched to natural rubber, and no more problems. We use natural rubber tubes in our Caravans too. You start to car...

Just incase people didn't know, you can watch any of these shows on line. Less commercials than watching on TV. Here's the link.

Re: The ultimate glider tow plane and training glider?

I tow banners out of 4000' elevation strips, using a C150 STC'd with a lycoming 360 (180 hp) and its a great performer. Some of our billboards are 30' X 90' , but that's basically the max, otherwise temps run to high with the nose up attitude and slow airspeed.

I met Mikey last weekend at the boat / sportsman show in Edmonton. Had a chance to ask him about the CL215 down in South America, and he said they still haven't purchased it. He also said that they will follow up with that purchase on the third season. On a side note he looked as if he hadn't slept ...

Re: 100LL Prices

I just paid $1.50 / L for 100LL at Innisfail Alberta. If I had my own plane it would be drinking a 60/40 blend of Mogas to Avgas. I'd also think nothing of burning Mogas most of the time if the price just keeps going up. Keep in mind we are talking about small low compression engines like 360's and ...

Re: Private Aircraft Owners - Winter is Coming!

When preheating with a space heater, I've found these sponges for doing tile grouting (the inexpensive ones) fit the forward two intakes, on the cowl of a C150, just perfectly. Tied a orange flag around them, to remember to remove before flight. Cheap, easy, holds the heat in great!
