Re: Attn: All Ontario FTU Owners - Private Career Colleges

Sorry - not up to speed on this issue.

What are the FTU's concern about the PCC Act?

Re: Aerobatic Training

You could try acrobatics in a glider. A number of clubs have acrobatic programs. Just a thought.

Re: Full-Time Pilot Career

I would recommend go to a real University study something you like and can fall back on. Do your flight training on weekends and breaks. That would impress me much more than graduating from a puppy mill.

Re: Flight Training - Smith Falls, Arnprior, RfC, or OfC?

I visited Cornwall last summer. I was impressed. Good facility and nice people.

I would definitely check it out and see if the school suits you.

Good Luck!

ATP Flight School

Anyone have experiences to share about this US flight school? http://www.atpflightschool.com/ I'm investigating flight training and this place appears to be one of the largest flight schools in the US. They offer a 90 day and 160 day fast track ab initio training program. That seems a bit short ... ...

Re: Helicopter Training Links

Ground Thumper, I grabbed these prices off of a website from a school in Ontario. R22- $460 R44- $700 206- $950. Tax not included. You asked about doing all of your training on a R44. Consider this; 100 hours on the R44 = $70,000. or 60 hours on the R22 = $27,600 20 hours on the R44 = $14,000 20 ho...

Flight training advice.

I'm thinking about rotary wing commercial training ... again :) I'm Canadian but I really would like to work in the southern US. Would I be better positioned to work in the US with US training? Additionally, I was looking at Quantum Helicopters. Anyone have good/bad experiences to share? Cheers, GT

Re: Latest Chisel Charter Operator

Your chances of losing or winning with TCCA is closely tied to several factors. If you know the right people in TCCA and the issue is not wrongdoing on the part of a TCCA employee you have a far better chance of not being penalized for anything. If you are contributing to a TC employees bank accoun...

Re: Latest Chisel Charter Operator

Maybe if there were more opportunities for low time pilots it wouldn't be happening. Who would invest in a plane and dodge TC bullets for what appears to be building up hours by offering people an opportunity to tag along at cost. How much does it really cost to for this guy to start a legitimate ch...

Re: Latest Chisel Charter Operator

What about a "plane-pool". Share a plane trip back and forth to work. Everyone chips in for gas and landing fees. The pilot takes no money for his time. Is this illegal?

Re: Pace of training.

What's the point of the half-build before the night rating? Why not do night right after PPL and do most of the building hours doing night XC? On the long run it looks much better, let's say for the 50h night XC PIC required for ATPL. These 50 hours, you might not get them easily by working as a F/...

Re: Pace of training.

Back when I was doing my PPL I was booking 3 times per week, and I went 8 weeks without flying once to due weather. It was either extreme winds, snow, or whatever. Keep that in mind....in the winter you are going to loose a good chunk of your bookings to weather. Maybe he said 1.5 years with that f...

Re: Pace of training.

I know a guy who did his PPL in exactly one month. For sure he got really lucky with the weather and was at the flying school everyday. For the CPL I don't know how long it should take, I'm doing it right now. What I know is that since I have to pay for a given amount of hours, I'll use them the be...

Re: Pace of training.

So you diligently calculated that it would take a bare minimum of 100 work days. That works out to be about 20 5-day weeks (all things being equal - probably not reasonable). I was thinking it might have been more actually. Lets round up to 26 weeks - 6 months. Leave a few months for weather and ex...

Re: Pace of training.

Easier to break training into specific chunks and take 3 weeks to a month off for them. This way you can study extensively for the next chunk then dive in. This way you are focused on realistic completion times, and can limit your studies to what is at hand. Pre-Solo Prep for Private Test Half Buil...

Really? Just rotary or fixed as well?
Not to sure about fixed. My understanding is that rotary is a relatively small community and tends to hire Canadian trained pilots.
