Re: 2004 Pelee Island Georgian Express Van crash now in court
RIght? It's frustrating. At least TC had the nads to shut them down after. Clearly enough evidence to warrant losing their OC, it doesn't just happen after a crash. Of course, Georgian Express's parent company continued on to be the shining bastion of respect and culture that they are and always hav...

2004 Pelee Island Georgian Express Van crash now in court
Anyone else following this? The family's suit is finally being heard in Superior Court. A lot of people in the area including myself were touched in some way by this. Ostensibly it has always been a textbook case of overweight and icing conditions, but I'm not sure I have 100% confidence in Georgian...

The overwhelmingly religious resgination in the comments on that page shows how out to lunch some of the population in the area is.
Not gonna speculate yet as to why those guys elected to do their approach right through a severe storm, but jesus.... wtf.

Re: Boeing Corporate Culture
Boeing's corporate structure and culture is no different from any other today. The problem that these toolboxes have is that their profits are delicately interwoven with safety and human life. It makes for quite an interesting check measure, but even more interesting is that it could be so blatantly...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program
Compared with doing a conventional CPL path, why would anyone do this instead of joining the RCAF instead?? While I look back very fondly on some the awesome jobs I've had in aviation, if I had it to do all over again I probably would have gone the military route. This just sounds like a horrible ti...

Re: Regional Career
Nothing wrong with a regional career if it checks all your personal boxes, especially at the Jazz, but I was under the impression it isn't what it used to be and the wawcon that made a lot of guys happy up to retirement isn't there anymore. I could be wrong though, never worked there. Out of curiosi...

Re: CATSA nonsense
Some airline pilots now are 20 year-olds that have never held another job. They haven't gone through the stages of employment and references it took it in the past to be vetted at a professional level. Any red flags haven't shown up yet. So, sadly, I'll take the scrutiny, but I'll still laugh openly...

Re: fifty reasons to find a new instructor
That guy in a other thread who's instructor said 2 seperate runways can't be intersecting for the purposes of alternate minima because they share the same pavement. That was hilarious. What, is there a contagious asphalt disease that can be spread by intersection? While it is not relevant for Canad...

Re: What can a Q4 experienced DEC earn at Encore?
This is purely anecdotal evidence and second hand, but I know exactly 4 people that went DEC at Encore, well experienced, and all 4 left between a few weeks to a few months on-line, all because of the schedule.

Re: Aoa VS airspeed
The faster a regular speedboat goes the more it lifts out of the water, without changing pitch for the most part, right? Air is fairly similar to water. Stick your hand out the window in the car going 100 and the slightest angle makes it go up and down, whereas at 10 it doesn't do anything. It's the...

Just remember guys, any renegotiation that comes with a cash bonus attached is bribery, and in some manner will not likely be in favour of the pilot group as a whole, plain and simple. They're buying votes from people.

Re: Direct Entry Captain Course
Sky is purely a staffing company. It's AC's structure, gates, ground crew, dispatch, fuel, airplanes, even the training bill (For the sim only, not the instructors, since they're Sky pilots). All Sky does is supply crew and mx at a cut rate, paying their employees to do the same job, on the same equ...

Re: Air Transat runway incursion
There is indeed a discrepancy, and if you want you can see it on google earth. The chart shows the line past the corner of L, perpendicular to the edge of 8R. The actual line is a good bit before, and cuts across the corner on an angle. Normally, it would be a glaring error to go past a hold short l...

Re: AT Votes Yes for AC Acquisition
Something I've heard from the AC side is the very real possibility of Transat completely replacing Rouge.... Mainline needs pilots, so Rouge crew would slide over to mainline. Solves that. Rouge 319 and 767's at end of life would be retired and replaced by Transat's fleet with no changes to scope. T...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?
Without a doubt some of the best students I've had, as well as the best flight crews I've worked with have been female- Captains and FO's. Might have something to do with having to prove themselves outside of their minority, yet doing so without machismo. It just translates into real competence and ...

Re: Direct Entry Captain Course
Not "too" many 3-4 year FO's at Sky. They're usually unique situations for any number of reasons. The main issue there is that while capt attrition has always been at a steady rate, the FO's previously hired at 2500 hours were upgradeable at the 2 years by the matrix (Also coincidentally eligible fo...

Re: Are Amber Alerts affecting your flight safety?
I've also put the notifications for them to silent on my S10. Easy peasy. When I get up in the morning the first thing I see is the type of car and where they might be going. I'll keep an eye out. But there is literally zero point to me getting the info in the middle of the night because, since I'm ...
