Re: Dreamliner Down in India

I am so utterly, fist fuckingly confused here... is your working theory that some sort of extremely (so much so as to be undetectable) minor atmospheric anomaly could have the same catastrophic end result on an airliner as shutting down the engines?

Re: Multi flight test-SE GA

I think it's important to know the type in this case, as it might be a case of what's best practice compared to what's written in the POH vs what criteria the examiner using to assess. For example, for the PA44, normal takeoff is no flaps, and in both the engine fail/securing and SE GA sections of t...

OK.

FYI for the thread.... profit share this year was 22 weeks of salary.
So a nice 42% bonus.

Tax free, like everything else.

And that’s exactly why we’ve got the world-class contract we landed last year. Out of curiosity, doesn't sound like you work at AC despite your comment here... Last year you posted about doing your CPL written. While I completely agree about our fucking insane, broken, handcuffing, top-heavy, carro...

Plus housing benefits, plus profit share/performance bonuses, plus sizable monthly child care/education benefits. So, yes, the main advantage isn't necessarily a much higher gross salary, it's that you keep every dime and then some. 350k here nets 180k, minus health benefits/insurance and mortgage/r...

Ah, it's still time, shows you're good with theory and communication, but just like anything else it has an expiry date. 1000 hrs of instruction? Great, you stuck around, committed to your students, etc. 5000 hrs? Well, maybe we start talking about why the jump now. Maybe the reasons are completely ...

Looks like we pay just a shade under 5% of gross, and about 9% of net.
No way to opt out, only for health benefits.

Leafs95, I'm a bit distanced from any hiring right now, so I can't help you other than to say you "should" be easily able to grab an entry level job in the next step of what sector you want. No problem with a 703 FO job, not sure about others but likely competitive in most. There reason I'm chiming ...

Re: Air Canada Pension

That's a great article, thank you. I haven't thought to question the NASA data to that extent. I know it's an older study, and factors that would render the statistics obsolete would include the overall reduction in duty hours, fatigue awareness, increased shielding in cockpits/windows, better air f...

With respect, it's an accepted NASA study and you're a sample group of one. I'd hardly jump to saying it's wrong. They're averages.

Btw, what would someone get joining AC at 50? I'm guessing around $90k...

Don't underestimate how much longer you could draw from the fund for if you retire early. According to an older NASA study, the average lifespan of an airline pilot who retires at 65 is... 66. Whereas retiring at 55 gets you around 75. This is published information and the actuaries who wrote the pl...

This might be a situation where the minutiae of the language might not equate to reality- or the opinion of individual TC employees. I'm of the opinion that "during" in that paragraph should differ greatly from the use of "within", such as in the knowledge section (AIRAT within the previous 24 month...

Re: New TC Cannabis rules

From what I know, the current guidance in Canada comes from blanket research by NASA. It's not a performance issue, but rather a testing weakness and therefore a liability cushion. When consuming, THC and CBD compounds are absorbed into lipid tissue. During a stressful event, such as an incident or ...

Personally, I think this was a huge missed PR opportunity by any of the other airlines. Yup. 4 years ago our pay was better than AC's in some respects. I've also heard of guys here who don't understand that we need to be asking for big percentages, ...

If the FDR and CVR all show the switches were operated, it might not be worth it to test them further. From the preliminary report, quoted from AvHerald: The thrust lever quadrant sustained significant thermal damage. Both thrust levers were found near the aft (idle) position. However, the EAFR dat...
