Glad that pilots technically still have their jobs, but I'd still consider a sudden large cohort of LOA's analogous to being laid off.
Is there some sort of wet lease or subcontract shift coming up?

Re: Why WestJet?
I know a ton of guys at AC who haven't taken the NB junior upgrade at the first chance. Unless I'm misunderstanding you?
I can't see any reason to pass at WJ, but then again I'm not there.

Re: 2025 Pilot Recruitment
Actual reason is very little hiring this year, only 20 something so far in 2025 which is a fraction of normal. No growth in the total roster due to grounded tails and waiting on new deliveries.

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
I believe ICAO mandates having a preliminary report released within 30 days, not after.
Many accidents have been within days, whether official or leaked. Lion Air, Germanwings, Air France, etc etc.

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
If we can get off this weather derailment....
I'm wondering when the first preliminary statement will be made. India has had the boxes for 11 days now. Occasionally there's some voice recorder details available by now.
To me, it's alluding to an expectedly complex situation.

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
Here's a dubious question for the 78 drivers- Doubtful, but can you shut a normally operating engine(s) off by turning the masters alone off? They are called fuel cutoff switches and yes, you can shut down a normally operating engine at any time during the flight by simply selecting it to "cutoff"....

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
^ I’m of the opinion that some fancy malfunction that just happened to coincide with gear retraction, and has never happened on any other 787, is unlikely. Much better to fall back on the old chestnut f human error - someone has, (in a panic?), pushed the wrong button, or pulled the wrong lever… I ...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
To me, that theory doesn't quite check all the boxes. I don't know the specifics of the 78 sops, but in the bus you don't begin securing until well-stabilized, climbing and flying. No button smashing until then. I would assume the 78 is similar. Same with the Mayday call on a v1 cut. With balanced f...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
That's a great observation sportingrifle. I believe the preliminary evidence so far is supporting a loss of thrust. It's incongruous to watch the footage and reconcile flap retraction as the reason for the descent. Just wouldn't happen. I didn't think it added up from the first viewing. Factor in th...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
I think there has to be more to this than just flap retraction, even if instead of gear. A 788 should be able to power out of one notch of flap in that amount of time, even on a single engine, gear extended, thought I'm not specifically familiar with the type and TOGA application. They also had time...

Re: AR program Did I read that right?
This is definitely way off topic now, but I will say that with the JV in place, and operating under an incorporation owned by Transat (We were told a name, but I can't remember it, something modern and flighty sounding.), if Porter was operating in bad faith they would be hit with legal action by no...

Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Tldr; Rookie went off casting aspersions yet again, no point in replying. Slob Driver, thanks for the insight. The differences between standard and non-standard gets a bit esoteric for me, so I really dont know specifically how it applies. But accounting certainly has its fair share of latitude it s...

Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Do you mean the 900,000 CEBA loans given to small and medium businesses? Of which so far over $12B of the $40B has been forgiven, with more to come? Besides that, I agree, the shortsighted and incompetently implemented shutdown measures that disproportionately hit small businesses were just swell. C...

Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Before the shutdown order TRZ had zero debt and over $500m in liquid cash. Plus the $18 per share takeover bid from AC. It was the govt's own disproportionately long and detrimental response to Covid that dug this huge hole in the first place. As a note, that $1.5b figure includes lease liabilities,...

Re: Transat got a sweet deal
I also find it interesting how quiet this subject has been. There is hardly any news about this, and no commentary from other airline CEO's. When the Trudeau Liberals gave Bombardier a $372.5 million repayable loan, it was all over the news. Transat gets $380 million in debt taken off its balance s...

Lol, another pissy Jazz pilot. Here's a suggestion. If you believe your livelihood and success is dependant on other people giving you something, maybe try another job. You have free will, no? Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Different scenarios. AC is a much larger company who could continue domestic operations wheras TRZ was mandated to completely shut down by virtue of their international route structure and Canada's world-trailing shutdown recovery. SWG was the only recipient in a similar environment, but they have a...

Means are irrelevant, and everyone's personal situation is different, known only to them. And eventually "them", will be You. It's baffling how little regard some of these guys give to their fellow pilots and people- but that's just their own trashy personality and thought process. Age and time will...

It's really interesting to see the types of personalities come to light on this thread. It reveals those that are not only repugnantly selfish and entitled, but the same people who lack critical thought and the empathic, humanistic sense of self to comprehend that they may also be in that situation ...

Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Not exactly related. This is a restructure of the covid-era shutdown "support" the Trudeau gov't provided, and was critically strangling the balance sheet. Not that I'm not happy they came to their senses and gave some relief, but relief from literal loan shark, double-digit interest terms is really...
