Re: Jazz Dash 8 and Menzies Fuel Truck Collide in YYZ

Interesting - my company has clear limits for taxi speed(s) as part of the SOP. It is also part of the FOQA monitoring. Taking a corner too fast can put a huge strain on the tires due to the sideloads involved. Can shorten tire life significantly - $$$$! Jazz also has taxi limits published on all t...

Re: Wil Jazz hire with instructing time only?

The management at airlines don't give a rat's arse about the quality of pilots. They just want the ones that are YES men (and women) and sign cheap contracts. I don't think that's a secret. Also, having worked at a "certain" company before, and gotten e-mails from "certain" managers about "why flig...

Pretty much anyone can make it a Jazz training program. Is it right? No, but it's reality.

Yes. I know of a few that were hired sub 1000 with a Class IV.
You also need 250 multi. Under 1000 with no multi will not be given serious consideration.

Uh, why are we on a public forum discussing our own business? Take the discussion to the Alpa Web board or at the very least the Private Forum on here (if anonymity is important to you). Naming people on here is not fair, especially if you don't intend to sign your name to it. But even still, not c...

You’re right, actually let’s make an avcanada award and give it to them for being the best paying regional. We will nickname it smartest company on the short bus award. It will be a golden short school bus..... There's no need for insults. We all chose our career paths and we lay in the beds we've ...

Flying the RJ at Jazz... vs the Q or DH8 is like working for a completely different company. If I would've gotten the RJ, I still would've been at Jazz now.
Sorry if already asked but what year did you start at Jazz? Where were you working before that?

Re: Classic Dash replacement??

The 301s are the orginal Time Air machines of which there were 10. Does that mean all 10 will be withdrawn from service? If I'm correct there are 18 311s which in theory should be able to go through the lifetime extension program? Air Ontario also had 4 301's in their fleet. Not sure how many of th...

Re: L1011

Great story FADEC, thanks for sharing. I remember flying YYZ-YVR in a 1011 as a young kid. In my mind that airplane was enormous. I know I had a cockpit visit too but don't remember details; I was probably 6 or 7 years old. Over the years I've been fascinated by the story of the airplane, especially...

Re: King Air PIC or Dash FO?

I guess if you have 0 pic, but if you're coming into the airline with 400-500 pic, its easy at a lot of them to get PICUS for those last few harder to get hours. Jazz, Porter, are upgrading guys in as little as 8 months with fresh ATPs. Don't know about Porter, but nobody at Jazz had 8 month upgrad...

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

This critique of the TSB report by Capt. Steve Last is quit an eye opener to say the least! http://www.picma.info/sites/default/files/images/Report%20critique%201_4.pdf Thanks EPR. Very detailed, and much more than I considered, however many of the things noted in the above document were wh...

Re: Halifax crash report coming Thursday

Completely agree Gilles. I've become more and more disappointed with the TSB reports published over the last several years. In my mind the last well-written report (of a major accident) was SWR111. Now, the TSB is absolutely focussed on reporting superfluous details that quite frankly make me sleepy...

Nothing can substitute for PICSS. "PIC-Sans Supervision".
I understand why it exists, but really, the regulator may as well just reduce ATPL requirements by 100PIC Hrs in my opinion.

It's the easiest type I've ever done. Everything is QRC, the FMS is better, the A/P is better, hell... the training pilots are better. Everything is better. Do you have support for those comments? It's got nothing to do with what someone thinks is "better" about the airplane (or broadly thinks abou...

If you're like any of the other low time college hires I've flown with, I'm not worried. Word of advice, ignore the haters. At training, in the hotel etc. you'll likely get a bit of chirps even if they are in a "nice way." Just put your head down, work your ass off, minimize the time you spend at t...

I believe they had a crew duty issue in the end.

pdw What do you mean by your reference to "higher power setting"? Do you think TBM's take off at FLEX (reduced) power? I honestly am confused by your perception of what this airplane went through. It was not the launch of a Space Shuttle, nor a space X rocket. Wind had Z E R O to to with it. Honestl...
