Re: Encore hiring Foreign Workers??
I'm not racist in any way but am tired of foreign pilots getting jobs in 703 particularly when there are Canadian pilots trying - I suspect it is because the foreign pilots will or have to put up with crappier work environment. There seem to be some operators that think they are doing you a favor b...

Re: Encore hiring Foreign Workers??
How long does it take to get a foreign DEC from start to finish in the captain seat? My guess is with license conversions/validations/visa's/relocation - training, line indoc etc etc it must be pretty close to a year before they are online on their own - purely a guess, I am not in the industry. Re: Where to get definitive list of US airports of entry / landing rights airports
To be honest it doesn't really make a difference to the procedure a pilot needs to follow. In all cases you need to file eApis and then phone CBP at the airport you intend on landing at a minimum of 1 hr before arriving - times may need to be adjusted based upon CBP's workload etc. LRA, Internationa...

Re: Border crossing questions
That is not true, you can fly to the USA on an interim certificate of registration from Canada. Read the following link, note that a provisional C of R states Canadian airspace only, an interim does not. https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/publications/tp11957-chapter8-regist-5522.htm I have made...

Re: Changing N reg to C
What about spending a couple hundred to start a US LLC, register the plane to the LLC, convert to a FAA cert and just leave it N reg? Doesn't work unless you are a USA citizen, FAA rules state that whoever controls the LLC needs to be either a citizen of the USA or a resident of the USA. You can se...

Re: Student line of credit
Does anyone know if I can still get a line of credit if I have an unpaid, late credit card, balance of $1000. Want to finish my PPL so I dont need a whole lot. If your credit card balance is more than 30 days late and has reported on your credit bureau I think you will have a hard time obtaining any...

Re: Forgetting to do eAPIS
There is a US Gov't website where you can view a log of all of your border crossings. It's pretty detailed. Can't remember the site but will ask someone who does. I already posted it, above. Thanks for the link, it is kind of neat. Seems like there is some lag in the data though. I have crossed the...

Re: Forgetting to do eAPIS
I forgot to do an eApis filing exiting the US about a year ago and was a bit panicked so I called US Customs. They advised that I should file it after the fact - better late then never.
I would suggest you file an eApis as soon as possible reporting that you left the USA.

Re: Bi-annual pitot static, cor. Check
What about flying south and having it done in the USA? TC accepted a FAA bi-annual on an import for me a couple years ago. You just have to be specify you wish to have the "IFR" check done not the "VFR" check irregardless of whether you fly VFR or IFR. TC's requirements match the IFR check in the US...

Re: Annual inspection anniversary date.
Problem is that almost all light A/C have AD's that have to be done every 12 months and the AD is due exactly 12 months, you can't stretch it out.
At least that is my understanding, would love to be proven wrong.
One that applies to most is the Cabin Heat Muff AD for example.

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but anyways here goes. I'm just a PPL with a basic understanding of how relative air movement effects a planes ability to fly so please forgive my ignorance. In my basic understanding as long as you keep an appropriate indicated airspeed, why does it...

It will be interesting to see if this applies to aircraft that were certified under CAR Part 3 such as the Cessna 172 & 150.
My 1980 172N was certified under part 3, my 1979 PA-38 is part 23.

Re: Supplementing Canadian Flight Training with US FTU
When I had my Student pilot permit (had passed the flight test already but hadn't written the test) I did some flying in Las Vegas. It was difficult to find a school that was willing to even do dual with me. Basically if you aren't a licensed pilot they need to either have a charter license from the...

I wish they would remove this part
"3. The aircraft must have a yearly condition inspection by an A&P mechanic certifying that the
aircraft is “in condition for safe operation.”
I also hope that this means that Canadian O-M aircraft will be permitted to fly into the USA.

I find this guys ad for a local plane sort of funny.

If the plane is professionally maintained then why is it O-M ?

Thanks for sharing. I've been tempted on occasion to put my Piper Tomahawk into the O-M category but I really enjoy flying in the USA and don't want to kill the resale value of the aircraft. Not that it has much at this point anyways. I was at the Arlington Fly In this year and there was an absolute...

+ Unfamiliar Area to the list.
Most of the airports I fly to at night have a note in the CFS that reads like this:
"Only pilots familiar with local terrain should use this A/D dur hrs of darkness."
Some of them have this:
"A/D lctd in narrow mtn valley with unlgtd thigh terrain E & W of aprt.

Re: Windsor Flying Club 172 down in Nashville.
On my 172N the tach is purely mechanical and the hobb's is powered from the same electrical circuit the clock is and runs off of an oil pressure switch.
In other words, both the tach and hobbs function normally even with the master off.
