Re: Airline lifestyle

You know, I've asked these same questions from the get go....I had brand newborns just as my career was taking off(joined AC) I've never missed a XMAS, birthday, etc. I've known guys who missed them all.....I think its all to do with how important it is to you....I started at AC as a 320 F/O...it w...

Re: Air Canada "haute cuisine" and incidence of Crew diarrhea?

I’ve had upset stomach once from India. Lasted six months. Once from Seoul. Pretty sure from layover food. Direah. And 2 weeks duration. Constant discomfort. One of the side effects of airline flying. People outside our group don’t think about these Things we deal with. Jet lag is ever present for ...

Re: Airline lifestyle

Of course things can change fast in this industry, as we all know. Standard aviation disclaimer. BUT.... I was hired at AC before this mad rush of hiring when things were much slower, and I still got a YVR base within 4 months. Sure I was on reserve for 2 years, but I haven't looked back. The commut...

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?

So much about nothing... the psych test was a non-event, in fact many in my class were called back to redo it because their answers could not generate an accurate score. They were then told that if their second test wasn't accurate enough that they would then meet with an AC Doctor and do an in per...

Re: Can a newly minted A319/320/321 AC Captain still be drafted back to an F/o position?

No one goes 787fo to 320c Umm, many do. Some also go 320c to 787fo. Some have even gone EMJc to 330rp, by choice. Not kidding. There is nothing new under the sun. There are no 330 RP positions. All augmented flying (which there is very little of) is done by FO’s. Today there are no 330 rp positions...

Re: What's going on...??

Most 319 leases were already set to expire and the aircraft returned, however as part of the accelerated E190 retirement plan the 319 leases were renewed as interm lift to fill the gap until A220s start to show up. Needless to say the mainline 319s are on borrowed time already; don't hold your breat...

Re: Possible CSeries routes?

There is something to be said for the value of older 'cheap' aircraft, just look at the number of MD-82/B717's flying with Delta and American. The side benefit to having some older aircraft in the fleet is flexibility, insofar as when there is a downturn in the economy they can be parked. The 767-2...

Re: Possible CSeries routes?

FWIW, I queried ED regarding the CS300 ending up at rouge as a 319 replacement, his response was there were currently no plans for the CS at rouge. Of course, plans change month to month. 4 months ago 319s were going back to lessor in Q1. That's all changed. Regarding the CS300 not fitting in the ma...

Re: The attributes of the 737MAX joining the AC fleet?

Nothing posted out here yet. I think most suspect it's only a matter of time, but most of us are hoping the eastern boys'll keep the New Shiny to themselves and saddle us with the bulk of the old 320 fleet. We like being left to ourselves ;) Couldn't have said it better. "Wow that *ahem* 'new' 737 ...

Re: The attributes of the 737MAX joining the AC fleet?

All valid points regarding the economics and fleet diversity strengths. From the AC pilot's perspective of the type joining the fleet, since the order was announced 2 years ago, I have met "one" guy who was excited to fly it. By far most intend to avoid it or stay away as long as possible until forc...

Re: First year U.S. regional FO makes more than fourth year Air Canada FO

As far as your numbers, Airline Pilot Central might not be the best source. My year 4 income at AC was 6 figures as a mainline FO. That's T4 taxable income, not perdiums, pension etc. Rouge guys will do better than that. I was told that flat pay of about 50K for 4 years at AC was the norm, and this...

Re: Narrowbody Preference: EMJ vs A320

I have been on blithe types in the right seat. Now in the left seat of EMJ. I think the EMJ sked is great flying max hours in only 15 days not 16 like you would on the bus. The EMJ is a great machine fun to fly but you do raise and lower the gear more than other fleets but you also have less sittin...

Re: Narrowbody Preference: EMJ vs A320

If I were a new hire I would choose Rouge. No reserve. Socialized bidding is very beneficial when junior. Unlimited overtime to make up for the crappy pay check in the first 4 Year’s. If you like turns look at the 319. If you want overseas look at the 76. The problem is most people are thinking the...

Re: Possible CSeries routes?

Unlikely they would be deployed overseas, since as you state they are earmarked for E190/A319 replacement. Also there has been no mention of the CS300 receiving ETOPS certification with AC. There are many long thin routes within North America that the CS300 will fit into nicely, and once the 190/319...

Food for thought...... That call all depends on that HR person. I personally think...

Re: When is AC hiring again?

Thanks for the correction altiplano. I have a more limited understanding of the DB since it was never an option anyways. The extreme rp/777 captain example is unrealistic, but simply to point out the difference between best 5 vs career average earnings. The CWIPP pension is portable up until age 50,...

I understand that, as do most DCers. But that doesn't mean many felt that this time around it was our turn for a pension upgrade. Whether or not we were able to improve the DC pension in 2014, the fact is we didn't. So why are we labeled "entitled" for wanting it in this round? That I don't underst...

Re: New TA?

I think the sarcasm I read from you was actually confused. The number of DB guys who seemingly have zero understanding of the MEPP and speak so highly of the DC plan is exhausting. I thought you inferred that the existing DC plan was excellent (not the MEPP that we gained). I heard so many times fr...
