Re: Curious. SYD-AKL-YVR

Interestingly, we often ship tens of thousands of live bees back from NZ to Canada. A friend of mine has a palette of bees arriving on March 5 that will be coming on that run. A package of bees holds 1 kilo of live bees (about 2500 bees), and there are about 700 packages in a shipment. Palettes of ...

Fruit, micro chips, car parts, medical equipment, and many other random things. There is no one single staple item that dominates the cargo. Interestingly, we often ship tens of thousands of live bees back from NZ to Canada.

Re: COVID MOA 2

So much discussion on here about the "scope let". As if it's some massive give. Clearly it's misunderstood. All the MOA allows the company to do is pause JV ASM data collection for 6 more months (they have already been allowed this for 6 months with MOA 1). That places them in a better position to n...

Re: AC pilot salaries now?

A 10 year 787 FO is making ~$200k/yr. About $9k/month after tax, with an additional $1k per dium on top. So it definitely doesn't take 20 years to reach the decent money at AC. (this is of course at a normal 75-80 hours/month)

Re: 79 Airplanes Retired

So am I correct in understanding that any RP will not be entitled to a RIR because any position they move to is an upgraded position? Therefore, even if the company offered the RP position in the future, the original RPs would have to no RP CR except UR CR to make the move back? This would open it ...

Re: And so it begins...

Your logic reminds me of a suggestion mailed into a Richmond newspaper by a citizen frustrated by airplane noise years ago. He proposed moving the entire YVR operation to YXX, and turning YVR's terminals into a big mall. That way all the aerospace employees based there could keep their jobs, albeit...

Re: And so it begins...

I gotta say digits, the basis of much of your argument has socialism laced throughout. The server at Denny's makes 40k a year, why should a pilot feel more entitled to a higher income? What about a pharmacist? Or a structural engineer? Everyone wakes up to the same alarm clock right? Of course this ...

Re: Air Canada "haute cuisine" and incidence of Crew diarrhea?

I’ve had upset stomach once from India. Lasted six months. Once from Seoul. Pretty sure from layover food. Direah. And 2 weeks duration. Constant discomfort. One of the side effects of airline flying. People outside our group don’t think about these Things we deal with. Jet lag is ever present for ...

Re: Airline lifestyle

Of course things can change fast in this industry, as we all know. Standard aviation disclaimer. BUT.... I was hired at AC before this mad rush of hiring when things were much slower, and I still got a YVR base within 4 months. Sure I was on reserve for 2 years, but I haven't looked back. The commut...

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?

So much about nothing... the psych test was a non-event, in fact many in my class were called back to redo it because their answers could not generate an accurate score. They were then told that if their second test wasn't accurate enough that they would then meet with an AC Doctor and do an in per...

No one goes 787fo to 320c Umm, many do. Some also go 320c to 787fo. Some have even gone EMJc to 330rp, by choice. Not kidding. There is nothing new under the sun. There are no 330 RP positions. All augmented flying (which there is very little of) is done by FO’s. Today there are no 330 rp positions...

Most 319 leases were already set to expire and the aircraft returned, however as part of the accelerated E190 retirement plan the 319 leases were renewed as interm lift to fill the gap until A220s start to show up. Needless to say the mainline 319s are on borrowed time already; don't hold your breat...

Re: Possible CSeries routes?

There is something to be said for the value of older 'cheap' aircraft, just look at the number of MD-82/B717's flying with Delta and American. The side benefit to having some older aircraft in the fleet is flexibility, insofar as when there is a downturn in the economy they can be parked. The 767-2...
