Re: Off Shore Subcontracting of jobs has started, who is nex
Very sad days. These were Air Canada employees who did what they thought best to try to provide for their families. They were given some options, but lacking in explanations. AVEOS was another shell. The LCCs will be too. I am kind of shocked that Westjet would open the door for this kind of abuse. ...

Re: Air Canada moves to lock out pilots
Folks, sorry but I have not read the entire thread. In my opinion, this is a very sad day for unions, for pilots particularly, for airline unions, and for democracy in general. Dramatic? I don't think so! I don't post here very often. I've been a commercial pilot for 40 years, I've seen a few things...

Re: positions
Nice job for new hire is 777 RP for productivity, comfort, time with family, and variety. In my opinion. Next would be 767RP as a new hire position. RP is a good way to spend a couple/few years checking out the operation of AC before jumping into the fire so to speak. EMJ is hard work, and lots of l...

Re: CHRT Remedy Ruling?
And with the windfall gains AC will reap from FlyPast60 they will be able to pay a starting salary of $85,000 and full pay for DH and not even notice it. By the way, what is ACPA's estimate for the amount of windfall profits going to AC as a result of the "New World Order" of "FlyPast60"? I hate to...

IMO, apply and find out! If you don't buy a ticket you can't win a lottery. If you buy one, you have at least have a chance.
In any case, you will have a history of indicting interest in AC. Start early, and keep the CV updated. You never know, maybe your number will come up.

As examples, fuel stored in the ground can be cold, so that can make the wings colder than the air. Aircraft can arrive with cold fuel if the flight has been in a -60C (or so) temp for a few hours, say YYZ-YQR vs YWG-YQR. The previous flight could arrive with a condition require a deice prior to dep...

Re: YYC-YWG routes all Jazz
As a regular flier on this route. Noticed that all the flights are now Jazz and no Embrauers. Anyone know if this is a short term thing. I found them to be more confortable than the Canadair RJ's. I'd call AC directly but they likely wouldn't tell me the truth anyway and my ear would be sore from h...

Re: Air Canada HKG hotel?
Mumbai being the most notable, where many airline crews stayed. There have been attacks on crew buses, ie Bogata, etc. It's not secret obviously, but there is no need to make the information more available than it already is, in my opinion.

Please don't reply with an answer to this question.
Since the attacks at crew hotels, surely you understand that this information doesn't need to be posted on the Net!

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Apparently another bid is due out in November or December which would most likely show some additional vacancies on top of the 51 from last months bid. Management can plan as many bids as they like, but the requirement is for 2 per year, closing by the end of Dec, and end of June. We now seem to ha...

Re: "Ground to flightdeck..."
There is a WIDE variety of calls. My flights are mostly overseas, I think that LHR is not one of the worst vis the coms. The crews I normally deal with usually start every exchange with "Ground to cockpit"...then you have to say something like "go ahead" or go straight to a patter of "brakes set" or...

IF you are deemed unfit, you would never know the reason. You would be informed that you do not meet the criteria at this time, without an explanation of what that reason might be - exactly because of the legal issues. That could be your education or experience don't meet the threshold of that hirin...

Re: Pilots Support Retirement
The MEC Chair has released a Newsletter stating that the recent ACPA survey shows that "0ver 80% of pilots support retirement at 60". According to the results previously released, far fewer than 80% of the pilots voted. Interesting concept. Assuming the sample was taken randomly, and constructed pr...

Re: Airline Policy on Laser Eye Surgery
I had I-Lasik, and I work for AC. The I-Lasik (Interlase Lasik) is about $5000 or so. I would recommend getting the latest and greatest from a doctor that has thousands of procedures under his belt, and offers new equipment in a clean, well run facility. I you feel at all uncomfortable with the offi...

Re: Air Canada are miserable P--cks!!
My daughter wanted to fly YWG-FCO (via YYZ outbound, and YUL return) summer season departure, and Labour return, last year. Despite wanting to use a pass, I said "don't do it", and she coughed up for a positive seat ticket. The AC seat sale price was about $350 each way, plus fees/taxes, which ended...

No harm in dressing "up". There is a caveat in the policy description. Remember that it is quite often the discretion of the gate agent. Give someone a smokey-the-bear hat and a badge...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
"within Canadian airspace"... Is that ok with the 60+ group? At 65, then what? There is assumption that the "right" will be retroactive. AC will have to fold to if that is required. The 60+ group may be "right", but not for themselves. They may be fighting for my right to extend past 60 though. I'm ...

I worked with a guy who apparently sued AC because they wouldn't hire him because he didn't meet their standards for a CAT 1 medical. I believe he won and then about 10 yrs later STILL got hired by AC! Cheers, ETTW :? Hmmm...AC has not given out a reason for not hiring someone for a long time...

Re: # of Jumpseats on Air Canada A/C
A lot depends on the gate agent, and the mood that they are in. I'm pretty sure most pilots could care less whether there are more than the # of j/s on the aircraft, and would accommodate you if the agent was ok with it.
