Dang... You're right! Who would have thought there'd be *two* airlines starting with S having complete meltdowns at the same time... :P

Re: Cluster @#$!

This was posted as a reply to the question "don't they have software to manage aircraft and crew?" in another group i'm in... There is a program. It optimizes crews and aircraft. It reroutes based on cost etc. The problem is, there was little if NO human intervention and when it started rerouting it...

Then when the electrical system fails one day, naturally at night, forgot to charge the IPAD, pilot is dead. Nonsense. Most of us, and most new pilots, are flying with multiple GPS units capable of navigating themselves out of trouble. Cell phone, iPad, even my watch has a GPS in it and the ability...

Re: Best practices for owning aircraft via corporation

It's going to be hard to find a competent accountant to prepare annual accounts for less than $1000. If you want to calculate and file a company tax return yourself, and your co-owners trust you to do so without screwing up, there's nothing stopping you. As someone who has been calculating and fili...

There is no minimum sanction, but there are guidelines for first, second and subsequent offences with adjustments for mitigating and aggravating factors. I’ll look in my archived copy of the Aviation Enforcement Policy Manual (which TC doesn’t want you to see any more) but my understanding comes fr...

Would this be an acceptable callsign today? It was fine for Wing Commander GIbson's dog, in 1944: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigger_(dog) And yet M*A*S*H episodes run on repeats regularly featuring the black character "Spearchucker Jones." I'm amazed they're still allowed to broadcast those epis...

Re: How are flight attendants allowed to make less than Min Wage?

Just for all those who don't actually work in aviation and don't understand how being paid hourly block time as cabin crew works: for CRA purposes, tax documents from the employer show half the posted pay rate at twice the posted hours, ie: if you work 75 hours per month at $28/hr, your official do...

Re: How are flight attendants allowed to make less than Min Wage?

If you are paid $24/hour, but are only paid for 900 hours per year, you only get paid $21,600 before tax. And you're working *part time*. If you are paid for 4-6 hours per day but work 8-14, your pay is essentially cut in half. At Encore, our flight attendants are paid roughly $10-14 per hour actua...

26.94 x 75 (Monthly Guarantee) x 12 months a year = $24,246/yr Alberta’s min wage is $15/hr x 40 hour/week x 52 weeks = $31,200/year. This is almost $7000 higher than encore. How is this legal??? Because it's comparing apples and oranges. You're comparing someone working full time, at 40 hours per ...

Thankfully all that happened was inertia. If they'd been able to get off the ground, they would have found that gravity happens too.
