Re: New Pilot Uniform

Talk about a tempest in a teapot there is few uniform wear testers checking out material types/looks, which we have always done.

Re: WJ-AC Reciprocal Jumpseat

Hey Jaques No offence taken, I assume that you are referring to the following rule, which should be changed but won't because of "me too". Quote: “PILOTS EMPLOYED BY AIR CANADA ARE REQUIRED TO USE A PERSONAL TRIP PASS (T420A) FOR JUMPSEAT TRAVEL ON AIR CANADA.” According to jump seat policy its airc...

Re: WJ-AC Reciprocal Jumpseat

Jaques You flew the ’67 for a few years and you know as well as anyone else having folks on the flight deck for 8-9-10 hours is tiresome for everyone. The 340’s were a little better if the bunk wasn’t been used, as most travelers preferred traveling in their own private lounge. I’m sure no one would...

Re: WJ-AC Reciprocal Jumpseat

Its hardly a reciprocal jumpseat agreement. From what I understand WJ can ride with AC but AC does not have jumpseat passes with westjet. I don't work for either company but I was trying to use my TRUE reciprocal jumpseat passes with AC yesterday. I got bumped off 4 flights by westjet pilots who wo...

Re: Question for Long Haul Drivers.

What happens when you're on one of those long layovers and then get sick 3 hours before departure? will that flight get cancelled or are there reserves in each destination? cause if the flight wouldn't be cancelled it would at least be delayed by a lot of hours to fly in another pilot? the original...

Re: Question for Long Haul Drivers.

In the "Old" days, there were sometimes 6 day layovers because the flight only went once a week. Yep it’s surprising how senior the long layovers went. No one wanted to get displaced off them, way too much fun… Long layovers taking place on the other side of the world also provided a reserve crew f...

Re: Laser beam hits WestJet pilot in the eye on Calgary takeoff

WJ700 Ahh perhaps you shouldn’t shoot off your mouth and re-read the article, which I did not post. All you are offering is your speculation instead of the newspaper quotes of what actually happened. If this incident went down as reported then you have a safety problem of pushing the envelope. You h...

Re: Laser beam hits WestJet pilot in the eye on Calgary takeoff

Ummm, I work for WS, and I kinda agree with Rebel (ducks for cover..) IF he/she said they were fit to carry on, then why the check-up at the other end? As a precaution? Too late, damage (if any) done. IF he/she had any inclination that there had been any side effects from the laser, then land. End ...

Re: Laser beam hits WestJet pilot in the eye on Calgary takeoff

Ah Huge Hammer

How like you to try to turn another owner’s screw-up into a personal attack. You sure try to take the spot light off the real issue. If your spokesperson is the best you got for containing a safety issue then what can anyone say...

Re: Laser beam hits WestJet pilot in the eye on Calgary takeoff

So who exactly gets to decide whether they are fit to fly then? If you slightly bumped your head getting in the flight deck, do you ground yourself to get checked for a concussion? Hey! your capacity to determine your own fitness to fly is compromised. If I ever get on board with any of you armchai...

Re: Laser beam hits WestJet pilot in the eye on Calgary takeoff

Common sense AND safety would dictate that you land at the nearest suitable airport in the event of a crew member incapacitaion. I guess the difference for me is safety first. Common sense second. The safety of the people onboard will always come before anything else. I completely agree. If a crewm...

Re: CFRI cahrts

Rockie, I believe most transport catagory aircraft manufacturers data is based on average pilot skill and average airframe life. I was always told performance data was based on actual test pilot findings conducted on new airframes under regulators specified controlled conditions. It would be surpri...

Re: Alaska Air sees 3Q loss on hedges

Ah I don’t think that oil is at fire sale prices it has a long way to go. Unfortunately for SW this time around the other players are very aware of the hedging advantage that SW enjoyed and will do like-wise. Besides I don’t believe oil traders will allow themselves to be caught out this time. Once ...

Re: Alaska Air sees 3Q loss on hedges

According to SWA last annual report here is the company's fuel hedge for forward years ("approximate" per barrel basis, as of mid-January): 2007 is 95% hedged at $50/barrel; 2008 is 65% hedged at $49/barrel; 2009 is over 50% hedged at $51/barrel; 2010 is over 25% hedged at $63/barrel; 2010 is over i...

Re: Alaska Air sees 3Q loss on hedges

Everyone knows SW stands for SWA but may not know LUV is the NYSE symbol for SW and not widely used on aviation forums whatever.
