Re: Springbank to Kalispell (Whitefish)...looking for some guidance!
Overall, there were a few good learning experiences (for instance, I did not know that towered airports in the US do not open your VFR flight plan for you when you take off) and it was a lot of fun crossing the border for the first time! (in the Pilot's seat!) What? Surely, this is a mistake. Ameri...

....(even more so than other (albeit quieter) Canadian airports such as YVR/YUL/YYC(though YYC terminal and ZEG centre probably should coordinate a bit better)).... I like to think YYC terminal has little say on what actually goes on. We're (mostly) just along for the ride. #thecookiejarwithm...

Re: Use of French in Quebec FIR
I am in Europe right now, and visiting with some European ATC type people. The discussion came around to use of English in communications with the center here, and a question, which I am unable to answer, of what percentage of communications with Montreal ACC, terminal and tower are in English. Any...

Re: Squawk Ident
Thought I would chime in, this seems to be different around the globe, for example, my father who is a pilot for WestJet just had the ATC in London tell him that they dont confirm ident, they just give them the instruction, the pilot complies, and if not, the controller re-confirms why the ident sq...

Give it time. He's substantially younger, and crucially, has the backing to bilk taxpayers (sheep) for years to come. Ta-dah!Meatservo wrote:He's not even as rich as Steven Harper!

Re: Edmonton 40 story hi rise---- city centre airport??
Everything that deals/delt with the closing of YXD makes me sick. Corrupt politics at its finest, the city screwed MANY people and businesses and couldnt give a rats ass about em. ...and the benefits will outweigh the short term loss umpteen times within a generation or two. The positives will be i...

Re: What happens if you wash out?h
Hi all, Just curious if anyone knows what happens if you wash out of training? Are you offered the opportunity to maybe step down to Flight Service, or VFR/etc or is that end of the line for you at NAVCANADA? . I hate it when people think that FSS or VFR is a step down from IFR. It's not! Not every...

Re: 12 years since the Toronto blackout
Had been working at YUL ACC since 6 am that morning, was just finishing my shift when we found out YYZ and adjacent centres had lost all power. I was "instructed" by the manager to stick around in case we needed more hands on deck. Turned out to be a 17 hour day.

Re: YVR High Speed Climbs
I'm with Married A Canadian, I just issue a : "speed at your discretion". I'd have no issue with telling another pilot on the frequency to pound sand if they gave me a snarky "you can't do that". Like fvck you can't. If the pilot asks for it, there must be a valid reason, akin to someone requesting ...

Re: VFR flight following better in the US than Canada?
1- there's no obligation (from an ATC perspective) to offer flight following. 2- ATC sectors in Canada are typically larger than those south of the border. 3- radar coverage is typically better south of the border. (You should find a chart with all their radar sites, it's staggering when contrasted ...

Another threat made tonight against WS, a YVR-YYZ flight. Diverted to YYC, landed safely on 35L and stowed away on taxiway U.... Someone needs more than a swift kick in the jewels for all this.

Re: Clint Eastwood Film About Sully's Miracle on the Hudson
I just hope there's a good love story in there, like all other awesome Hollywood blockbusters. Think: Pearl Harbor. I mean, there just wasn't enough factual info to go by in 1941 so they jazzed it up with some romance. Knocked it right out of the park, IMO. Wasn't contrived or vomit inducing in the ...

Re: What's so special about Jean Lesage Airport, OC?
Best airport, best ATCs... They deserve special treatment, I love YQB. Ha ha ha. Oh stop it, my ribs. That's a good one. You guys obviously have no idea how SH**** YQB as a TCU is to work. Given the airspace, geography and airport limitations there is not much that can be done more expeditiously in...

Re: Departure freq in the clearance?
The second departure controller in YYC is rarely opened, I've maybe seen it open three times in my five years here, in the tower yet the procedure is done. You work a lot of evenings, then. Other than perhaps from 7-8:30 or 9 am, it's never been opened, but I can assure you it's used more of...

Strictly anecdotal, but from the other side of the microphone, the pilots at Encore have given me no reason to doubt their abilities and proficiency. When I find myself (it's their asses on the line, when I really think about it) in a tight spot, I haven't hesitated to get them to do some pretty fan...
