Re: Conair
Just go into the interview knowing that civilian “off the street” hires start from square one in terms of salary and matching RRSP etc. We found out mid season some years back that a group of former Canadian Forces (CF) pilots who were hired in the same year were brought in several salary levels abo...

Re: Saudi Red Sea Global C-208 Amphib Pilot Job
They just re-posted for this job: C-208 Amphibian Pilot. Some of the most experienced C-208 Captains have already turned the job down. Be aware - it is over a half year long that they are trying to recruit - and, there is no firm commitment to start of operations. Seems to be a sketchy operation sta...

Saudi Red Sea Global C-208 Amphib Pilot Job
Interviewed and declined the offer - 1 year contract; no rotations, 8000$ USD/month, looking specifically for C-208 experienced pilots - and they want them cheap. They plan to operate the C-208 into water conditions that the DHC-6F amphb already in country, has proven that a DHC-6F is required to ha...

Re: Conair
It is time for the Canadian firebombing industry to change and pull themselves out of the stone age… every operator in the US now offers rotations and double what Canada pays. One US based operator starts out DEC Captains at 185K USD and 3 weeks On/3 weeks OFF, albeit for a longer season. One Europe...

Conair
My experience with Conair was awesome. Great people and industry leaders work there. They know what they are doing. However, you are selling your summer (as previously mentioned). It takes about 5 years to get into good money. You get two blocks of (paid) 7 days off during the summer - randomly assi...

Twin Otter question
I was wondering if anybody could tell me what the dimensions of the seat pan cushion are in the Otter? I have to ferry a machine and I had a really uncomfortable time last ferry flight so I was hoping to buy a gel seat cushion or something similar to alleviate the numbness in the tailbone and to giv...

Re: Parker Pen the Resume
Hi guys and gals, This is an interesting topic and the practice unfortunately knows no boundaries or limits. I have found myself an inch away from getting a job but I was short in total time. Not a problem, I just went and kept at it… integrity and honesty are two things that most genuine employers ...

This is a little harsh
This is being a little harsh isn't it? What do you expect from young wannabees when they witness a guy who doesn't have the requirements or time in the log book get on with a company because he knows somebody there or has good connections? They fire out resumes left and right.... you should see it a...

How about Twin otter on floats to AC
in 1995 I witnessed a young (23 years old) chap who worked a half season on the docks for Harbour Air, then Borek put him on the Twin Otter on floats and he spent 3 months up in the QCIs... upon return to Vancouver his father (YVR AC A320 check Captain) came by telling all the other grunts that his ...

Re: Canadian pilots in foreign markets
Strobes, there is some excellent advice in this thread... if you are already around 3k in total time on light turbo props, why not head over to Kenn Borek Air in YYC and see what you can get there... if you want to see what the aviation world is like outside Canada that is an excellent start.. atlea...

Re: Canadian pilots in foreign markets
Hi Strobes, The problem is not finding work outside of Canada... the problem is coming back to Canada when you feel it is time to return. If you land a good job with decent machinery and have a great lifestyle outside of Canada it can be hard to return to the Canadian system.... in fact, you may not...

... the North American native tribes are a conquered people... when are they going to accept that and get over themselves? I am half Cree and have never ever used that as an angle in obtaining a job.... Hell, back in '90 I did the whole nine yards in Manitoba for the RCMP and was told by the recruit...

Re: Best Bear gun?
The best bear gun is a 458 Winchester... always had one with me up north and in camp also good against polar bear.... people always make the mistake of shooting a bear in the head... never, ever do this... always aim for the rear forward haunch or centre chest. If you have the confidence and the tim...

Thanks for the info timber, I am just wondering why companies expect or demand or assume (pick one) why a one month (or less) leave of notice is okay... I had to show a contract once to a potential new employer after passing the interview and selection that I had a contractual obligation to 4 months...

Re: TMA DHC-6 has a very hard landing during a training flig
Since we are on the topic of Twin Otters on floats... and Sean J is history.... I often wondered if TMA is sending their Otters anywhere for rebuild, refurbishment, realignment etc and how their corrosion prevention program is set up? I ask this because I ferried numerous Otters to and from the Mald...

Hi Guys and gals, When I worked for Borek I was on the Twin Otter and to be straight up - I was busy enough year round that I never really had time to rotate home. I told Ambrose to keep m ebusy and he did... that meant crashing at my parents place, my brother's place, and a few buddies housed me in...

I feel sorry for those guys, shit happens and hopefully they will learn from it. I am wondering though if the spreader bar pins failed...
