Just trying to find out why the -27/28 runs so much colder than the -20 ? Is there a prime difference in the engine design or are there several integrated features which allow it to thermally run better ? Horsepower can't be the answer; can it ?
Thanks for your replies...

Re: Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk
Inuvik will have all the fuel, Jet or AVGAS that you may need. Make sure you check out the Pingos (You'll figure it out) when you get up in Tuktoyaktuk. I also recommend that you follow the Mack up to Tuk and go directly back to Inuvik on the way south to check out Husky Lk (Great fishing if you can...

Re: What would be a good high performance floatplane to buy?
Just a thought... We are all talking about modifying the engine to an existing airplane. Aircrafts like the Turbo Beaver, Soloy 206 and the like, must all suspend all commercial single engine IFR operation when an aftermarket engine is installed. I would make sure that you check your federal regulat...

Re: High time wheel low time float pilot looking for a float
What about trying to move into a company like North Star, Transwest or North Wright and make the move across to floats. What would your thoughts be about such an idea ?

Re: Fort Good Hope-Horrible news
Unfortunate news. This is to make it aware to everyone that the critically injured pilot is awaiting his immediate family to arrive at the hospital prior to being taken off life support to say their final farewells. This information is accurate as of 2345 on the 22nd of May 2010 and has been approve...

Re: Question for Single Engine Float Pilots
Having flown various single engine float planes (-11, 185, 206, -2), I have always followed a flow pattern. Left to right and top to bottom. Basically touching every switch/control along the way. I did however always use the same acronym just before adding take-off power. Essentially it was my last ...

Caravan Flap Design
Short of calling Cessna or Flight Safety, I would like to know why the Cessna Grand Caravan has a slightly different flap structure on the left wing than on the right. I have consulted the POH, FS Manuals and the internet and have failed to find an answer to my question. If you compare the inboard f...

Air Tindi vs. North-Wright Airways vs. Arctic Sunwest
Here is my situation... Tindi and NWA have both shown interest in my application and I figured that I would also ask about ASA. What I would like to find out, is if anyone would suggest one of these three companies over the other. Considerations that come to mind are pay, location, ramp time, aircra...

I teach on floats in Southern Ontario and do know that we take our floats off either when we no longer are doing float training or usually no later than mid-november (Most likely)... Flying Job vs. DRIVING Insurance
I would like someone to shed some light on this. I just heard a rumour that operators have access to DRIVING insurance records to determine the suitability of a pilot. That they can access our past records and examine them prior to hiring a new employee (In other words see if there are any tendencie...

I have been flying as a jump pilot or "Glorified Cabbie" for three years now, and have had the chance to fly everything from 172's, 182's, 206's and even Twotter, in my quest to build time and experience. As a few of us were saying, you learn alot about powerplant management, center of gravity shift...

Cheap floatplane rental in Ontario
The upcoming float season is quickly approaching and I am looking into building some float time (30-50 Hours). I would like to find out if anyone has names of locations that rent out their float planes relatively cheaply. Even if someone knew an owner that you could partner up, or split shares with ...

An idea would be to get in touch with a local skydiving club. Most dropzones are currently operating 182's and are always looking for alternate ways of keeping them in the air. Make it known to them that you would like to do a checkout in one and would also like to log a few hours. 182 are essential...

I had the opportunity to try out the new Bose X headset (Having friends in a pilot shop has it's advantages). In reality I had virtually no complaints about the headset in itself and especially the ENR feature. During the flight they were great; ENR works like a charm and cancels out virtually all t...

I am currently persuing my class IV instructors rating and have the option of using a C172, C152 or a Piper Cub. I currently have over 50 hours in a tail dragger (Some rear seat) and was wondering if anyone had ever used a tail dragger for an instructor's rating instead of the conventional nose whee...
