Re: Ice Pilots Back

Let's just hope it's not Buffalo Joe's planes that she's interested in.

I think it was her choice not to upgrade earlier, but I stand corrected. Lovely lady, let me use the jumpseat once on the A319.

Re: Ground school soon, what should I know?

Day 2 is Seniority, Base & Equip. draw, followed later in the afternoon by the ALPA indoc. and dinner...at least it was when I was there. Things might have changed.

Re: Ground school soon, what should I know?

When you get to the Sim stage of your training do not be afraid to say you do not understand something, or you do not feel ready. The company does not want you to fail and will give you the extra [within reason] training so as to be successful on your ride.

All I have to say is, "Wow."

I'll bet you if it was AC they were going to...no problem.

If the base placement is a problem at Jazz then go work for Encore.

Re: New hire bids

"Also for those who are ALPA members, how does that work?"

Not sure what you mean by that statement. Everything is governed by DoH seniority, unless you are coming from another ALPA carrier then your DoH [for ALPA seniority purposes] at Jazz is the date you joined your original company.

Re: Hanging your hat at Jazz?

I joined Jazz at age 36 and never looked back. Had the opportunity to go to AC but never took it and no regrets with that decision. Best training to be had from a great bunch of guys & gals, mind you I'm sure my instructors went home and had a stiff drink after my training sessions  Now retire...

Re: Travel Benefits on other airlines

Yes, Jazz does have a JS program with other carriers. However it is only available to a pilot employee. Reduced travel is available to parents but is subject to the agreement with the carrier.

Re: New hire bids

I'm actually surprised Jazz (theoretically) allows someone with no jet experience to go left seat on a plane they have never flown. You could be a Seneca student, spend 3 years on the right seat of a Dash 8, get your PIC some way or another to get your AAs signed off and then theoretically upgrade ...

Re: New hire bids

"My plan if possible would be to get on the Q400 at another base and go to YYZ if not offered in YYZ" You would have to be awarded the Q4 in the 1st. place, otherwise you are frozen on type for 3 years [or at least that is how it used to be]. Always pick your best base 1st. the equip can come later.

In a nutshell, unlimited C4 priority passes. Wife or common-law partner, children. No buddy passes but you can take a buddy with you. A named travel partner. I believe there is provision for immediate family i.e. mother & father.

"Are you allowed to trade" Yes & no. It's been a while for me thinking about this, but you can trade, but not necessarily with someone from your course. There may be someone ahead of you on the list with that position as his/her 1st. choice so the position would go to them first. Forgot about the AL...
