SW4 Landing distance
A quick question from ATC to pilots. I'm looking for a normal landing distance for an SW4 under the following conditions: IFR weather - Ceiling 500' and visibility 2 SM ILS approach Wind 30 degrees off center 10G15 Airport elevation 1000' To be clear I would like to know the LDR (threshold to stoppi...

Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
Anyone who "washes out" before the sim/ on the job training portion lacks maturity and motivation because ANYONE can study the theory and pass, no excuse. The practical part is where people either have it or don't and we give EVERY oppurtunity to trainees to make it. Anyone who says otherwise is ei...

Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
We have maximum hours per 56 day cycle we can work, maximum shift length is 11.5 hours, i can't remember the max hours per 56 days because I don't work enough O/T to come close to it. Max shift length (12 hours) and time between shifts (8-10 hours) is governed by the collective agreement. TC does n...

Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
Sounds like an unsuccessful trainee who has difficulty accepting the fact that they couldn't do the job... Would it be fair at this point to ask how much overtime you do at NavCanada? Its the same logic you applied to the other poster. Attacking the credibility of a poster that states too much trut...

Re: IFR clearances and FSS
I got friends who are inspectors, you think TC enforcement is going to chase me over a non violation you probibly don't realize what kind of staffing issues they're having. Good luck "infracting" Obviously not very good ones if they keep letting you get away with the shit you describe. But then aga...

Re: VFR or IFR
So who can get assigned to Whitehorse or Yellowknife? Only people applying from Edmonton? If the overlying FIR location is the criteria for a tower posting, to try and keep the move as close as possible, then that logic doesn't always make sense in a country as big as ours. Whitehorse is closer to ...

Re: VFR or IFR
If you want to stay in Winnipeg, go IFR right away. If you go VFR, there is no guarantee you will land a course for YWG tower, meaning you might get assigned to Whitehorse, for example, and start off with a much lower ATC pay grade when you check out. You wouldn't end up in Whitehorse off a Winnipe...

Re: Jazz Q400 Right main landing gear collapse YEG
Just a question out of curiosity. It appears that the aircraft touched down with the right main in the grass (intentionally?). There doesn't seem to be skid marks or violent yawing towards the edge of the runway. Is this normal procedure for this type of event? I've always been taught that in a gear...

Re: Westjet pax way more disruptive
AC has the fix out of Edmonton. Apparently decided they needed to lock up the "popular" booze in the lounge. Bailey's, Crown Royal, and Grand Marnier all under lock and key, need to find service staff to pour you a shot when you get thirsty. The reason, too many drunks on the airplane.

Re: Decisions
(I believe CSD doesn't start for IFR trainees until they hit the floor and on OJT, and the basic course for them is about 4 months longer than the VFR basic). That was fixed in the last CA. While the IFR stream still do not become employees until they begin OJT (Pension only starts when they become...

Re: Question About Training Offer
A question for the ATC gurus here: I just received my employment package in the mail and I noticed there's a part where it says "after completing Basic Airport Control Training, you may be offered employment with Nav Canada." Could also relate to the fact that completing Basic Airport Control will ...

Might as well stop feeding this troll. He is obviously one of those guys that is happy to break rules and not only risk his life but those of his passengers and potentially the innocent victim that may be following the rules. Perhaps one day when he decides to launch "VFR" and climb through the clou...

Might as well give up 16SidedOffice. leftoftrack is obviously the kind of pilot that believes that the rules and procedures in place to ensure a safe system don't apply to him. Wonder if he also puts John Deere parts in is airplane? After all, only an honest AME would notice.

Re: Entering controlled IFR from uncontrolled airport
Not saying you don't have to pick your spots and take precautions but you shouldn't be flying low level IFR without maintaining a listening watch for local traffic. Listening to the center frequency that your going to be using while doing preflight on the ground checks doesn't hurt either you won't...

The guy flogging along on an IFR clearance in the same IMC may very well find out. There is a very good reason why you need to get a clearance PRIOR to entering IMC in controlled airspace.

Educate yourselves people. Ask for a tour of a tower or ACC. Learn the system. There is a lot of controllers in this building who hold ATPL, CPL and PPL that will gladly show you around. Nail on the head Burly. There are not many working pilots that also hold an ATC licence, but there is no shortag...

Re: Project: Parkland Airport - West of Edmonton
How can the AAC say they don't want their tax dollars going towards the future operation of a tower at Parkland and yet they don't have any qualms about the Enoch using other people's tax dollars to finance a court case against PADC. Bunch of hypocrites. Indians using Canadian taxpayer dollars to t...

Re: changes to ATC pension plan for new hires
Any economist will tell you that interest rates have 0% chance of staying this low for an extended period of time. Instead of listening to their pension "presentation" perhaps you should do the research yourself. I've done both. All of this while they go around boasting they haven't raised rates in...

Re: YEG courses 2013
The other bonus is that you will save some cash. I believe the IFR course still has a higher price tag than the IFR course. The IFR generic runs a little longer than the VFR generic course. The difference is that upon completing the VFR you will get posted to a location and start getting paid. Under...

Accept a VFR posting, qualify in the VFR unit and after 3 years you can bid to an IFR position.
