Re: Will Westjet survive?
Sure, whatever. I have 10 years to think about coming back to wj (if it lasts), retain my seniority, and not worry about my job being contracted out to Swissport. You are subject to the CLC and will probably never work for wj again. But hey, the union is horrible. Remember when you guys almost bank...

Q400 Prop Shortage
Heard about this today from maintenance:
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-glou ... e-31144128
Rumour is that new Q400s will soon be delivered with used props.

Re: Perimeter Sanny accident report
I think a secondary interesting discussion from an ethics discussion is this:
Your buddy calls you on the radio 10 minutes after he takes off and asks you to read him an approach plate for his destination so he can make notes because he forgot his plates. Do you do it?

Re: WESTJET 391 BOMB THREAT
Does anyone know of an actual case where a bomb was placed on an aircraft and then the airline or police was warned about it? Heck, forget an airplane. How about a bomb being placed anywhere and the police or location being warned about it. Is there a single reported case of this happening? I don't...

Re: Bearskin Metro 3 CYRL accident - Speculation thread
Well, with all respect, if you think that a TPE331-11 spinning at 96% at zero torque is a garden-variety engine failure then I really have nothing to add. Fair enough - I don't know how weird that is. OTOH, if one ignores the gauges and flies by the seat of one's pants - i.e., experiences the yaw, ...

Re: Bearskin Metro 3 CYRL accident - Speculation thread
You guys are all acting like it was a 'kaboom, hard yaw left, all the bells and whistles telling them they had an engine failure'. It wasn't. Did anyone actually read the report, or jump to the end. With a low power setting, and gusty winds, at 500' the airplane is getting bumped around, and anyone...

Re: Spaceship Two accident
It does look like the tail feathers came off in unison. It also looks like SS2 is flying upside down and backwards. I'm wondering if the feathers failed from overload during the feather and the craft nosed down 180 degrees when they detached.

Re: Spaceship Two accident
You'd think that they would have stuck with the tried-and-true kerosene/LOx motors that have been used since Von Braun? Or is the new engine cheaper? More eco-friendly? Lighter? Disclaimer: I have exactly zero expertise in this I was however a huge fan of the SpaceshipOne project and read everythin...

Re: Embarrassing or inventive?
I don't think that's really embarrassing. I read the book "Vulcan 607" a little while ago and discovered that the Vulcan that bombed the Falklands navigated there with An INU strapped to the floor in a wooden box that had been cannibalized out of a junked BA airliner. They also found a key aerial re...

Re: Cirrus CAPS deployed - aircraft had crossed Pacific in F
what I find strange is the disproportionately large number of Cirruses ending up dangling at the end of the para lines. Illya You have to separate parachute pulls from spins. Not every chute pull has been from a spin and I'm not even sure that the majority of them were. There were engine failures b...

Re: Cirrus CAPS deployed - aircraft had crossed Pacific in F
I did a quick Google search and came up with this: http://kineticlearning.com/pilots_world/safety/06_05/article_06_04.html I've read several times before that Alan Klapmeier wanted the chute because of the memories of his midair in 1985. I remember reading that he watched the other aircraft plummet ...

Re: Cirrus CAPS deployed - aircraft had crossed Pacific in F
Too bad pilots can't actually fly anymore. Not saying there was a choice....don't know the terrain, but? Illya But what? I've never understood all the hostility towards the chute. The way people talk on this forum, you'd think that several planes were parachuting out of the sky everyday. I might ha...

Working hard and being professional has absolutely no correlation with success in this industry.
It's a good policy, but if you believe 100% that you will be rewarded for your hard work you're in for a big surprise.

Here is an interesting article from Air & Space a few years ago. Apparently his flight to Red Square was the last time he flew a plane.
