Use of French in Quebec FIR
I am in Europe right now, and visiting with some European ATC type people. The discussion came around to use of English in communications with the center here, and a question, which I am unable to answer, of what percentage of communications with Montreal ACC, terminal and tower are in English. Anyb...

Re: NavCanada hiring practices vs the airlines
Gilles, I think you need to clarify whether you mean the percentage from start of classroom training versus starting on the job training. The classroom portion you pass the tests and evals and you continue training, or you fail these and you do not continue training.

Re: FSS Medical requirements
As far as I know there is no list and individuals must consult their doctor.
We do go to CAME for medicals here in Mysteryville, and I think everywhere else (?), but I have no idea what may make them say "not fit for duty".

Dunno about ATC MANOPS but FSS MANOPS directs us to give RSC/CRFI info to ALL arriving and departing aircraft not just Canadian ones.

Re: Gender
Percentages are higher (though I would have to go through our recently updated seniority list to figure out an exact number) in FSS than ATC for females as far as I know. Prior to perhaps the late 70's it was pretty low, from all I have heard, and usually all the women in the business were the only ...

Hiring/training/job postings are within each FIR. If you apply in Edmonton, as stated above you could go to any of those towers or others within the Edmonton FIR, depending on where they need staff.

Bad taste or not it is going to happen on here as we all know from history. It had already started. So we created a thread to keep it out of the other one.

Pretty sure you would get a job offer if there is an opening, but I think once you go to OJT out of the school, you aren't guaranteed return rights with EOCO.

Adam is correct. If you look at the bottom of the Board index page, where it says Who is online, just now it says "In total there are 1151 users online :: 119 registered, 27 hidden and 1005 guests (based on users active over the past 60 minutes) Most users ever online was 1269 on Mon Jan 16, 2012" S...

Re: Failed Human Weather Observation System
It should perhaps be called HAWOS-Human augmented weather observation system. The outdoor part of it, similar to AWOS, gathers information such as temperature, dewpoint, pressure, and wind which are displayed on the observer's computer monitor. The other elements of the METAR or SPECI are input by t...

Re: IFR Clearance in VMC
I think the high points are: 1. Sure you can depart from an MF airport without the VFR departure 2. If you elect to do so you MAY be unable to obtain an IFR clearance in the air and need to continue to destination VFR 3. You are on neither an IFR nor VFR flight plan, so no alerting service until and...
