Has anyone used a WiFi borescope for a smartphone?

Just wondering if anyone has used a WiFi borescope that connects to a smartphone? What model did you use? Verdict?

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

Sorry TS that I didn't get back to you sooner. I was on days off and debating with you isn't a high priority. No. There is no plumbers on the ramp here where I work but when I did take a year off from aviation I did get to work with millwrights, electricians, welders, heavy equipment operators, plan...

Re: AME Wages - AME's Unite!!

No Troubleshot it wasn't a bad choice. Yes, there was a time that I thought I could have done better but then I matured and grew out of my whiny little b!tch phase. Now I'm home every night, work days, live in an awesome part of the country and just shy of making six digits. Not bad I would say. Wor...

It is bad compared to other people that use tools to make a living. Period. Bad eh? Whoever fills these positions will have it made. http://careers.briarcanadianmanagement.com/index.php?m=portal&a=details&ref=wowjobs&jobOrderID=6128585 http://careers.briarcanadianmanagement.com/index.php?m=portal&a...

Re: leaving aviation for a new trade

Sorry everyone. It looks like the link I provided doesn't exist anymore. My bad. For AMEwannabe the link was for "Solar Turbines". They are a division of Caterpillar. They use turbines for all sorts of uses and operate across Canada. The link was for a field service technician servicing turbines and...

Re: leaving aviation for a new trade

Anything to do with turbines outside of aviation requires an engineering degree and 4 years university. Ive looked into it also and forget it. Unless you did your highschool with intentions to goto university. If not you need to upgrade all your highschool and 4 years of university. One of the Engi...

Re: leaving aviation for a new trade

Search "Turbines" in the Yellow Pages. Check out what companies are in that list and see if they perform maintenance on those turbines. With your experience in aircraft turbine maintenance you could easily use that knowledge for other applications turbines are used for like power generation. Also ch...

Re: slap in the face

Pat--You know what I found in my travels in and out of aviation is that with an attitude adjustment to the positive side and a little bit of drive you will find that your renumeration and lifestyle can greatly improve. Reading your posts makes me wonder if you can can accomplish either. You should t...

"If you walk into a room of 50 people, how can you tell the mechanic?.... roll a donut across the hangar floor and listen for the wrench hitting the floor."

Donuts, I'm past that. It's all about the danish. If it's cherry, that FCU can wait.

Re: Saxon YVR 737NG ad

Instead of spending all that money on type courses (3 airframe and 3 engine) I could have bought a wakeboard boat. @#$! am I stupid. Instead of having a company dictate to me where my career is going to go and where I'm going to live I chose to make my own path. Talk about dumb. Is it just me or do ...

Re: Saxon YVR 737NG ad

Pat Richards--What I'm pointing out is that HD mechs don't all make over $40/hr and have great perks. I'm not the one making the comparison between the two industries. You are. I purposely looked for those jobs in other parts of the country to see how they fare. How is it you picked one from Alberta...

Re: Saxon YVR 737NG ad

Troubleshot--You asked if I would take that job for $25/hr. No, I wouldn't. I've been doing this for 15 years and with my experience I would choose not to take $25/hr. I think that would warrant more per hour. But if I needed the job to put food on the table I would. Even you agree with that. Also I...

Re: Saxon YVR 737NG ad

Troubleshot--People are getting caught in a vicious circle here. You stated in another thread that people NEED a house, a car, a motorcycle(that made me chuckle), etc.. You also stated that loans would be required to purchase these items. So what is a young AME with little experience to do when they...

SeptRepair--No, I don't have kids. I know that if I did it would make things more difficult but I do know guys that do have kids and go out of town. It works for some and not for others. I've done the Monday to Friday routine in aviation and outside of aviation and I can say it's not for me. I stron...

Re: Choosing college to become AME-M, any advice will be tha

I probably could be making more money as a carpenter or as a plumber, or as an electrician but all of those trades come with certain drawbacks that I dislike. Like fishing a tampon out of a plugged toilet on a Saturday night? Awesome!!! Sign me up. Actually I like where I am now. I worked hard to t...

advice with mistakes to avoid for a young apprentice fresh out of school My advice to you is to find who the bitter engineers are and AVOID them. All they do is bring you down. I know because I use to be one of them. Just look at some of the stuff I wrote on this thread a few years ago(what was I t...

I know the oil patch uses turbines for power generation. Look up Solar Turbines or Dresser-Rand.

Re: AME shortage?

acidgambit--having a couple of airplanes maintained by foreign MRO's fall out of the sky probably won't do much to make the public pay attention to safety. The general public doesn't have a good memory when it comes to things like that. Why I say that is because unless it is obvious why the plane cr...

Re: Future AME Discouraged

Wait a minute here. Am I reading this right? Two posts in a row not bashing the industry? Has the world gone topsy-turby? All kidding aside, Weasel, you make a good point about other fields of work. As someone who had left the industry I found out real quick that aviation isn't so bad after all. Whe...
