Re: Vancouver Fraser Valley Collision Risk Surveys
I've been flying in and around the Lower Mainland for over five years now. Just recently (about half a year ago) I began renting a G1000 and TAS-equipped aircraft from CZBB. Boy, I was truly astonished by how much traffic was whizzing by me that I probably would have never been able to notice with m...

Wings over Kississing Norseman engine failure, June 13, 2013
CADORS: A Kississing Lake Lodge Noorduyn UC-64A (C-FENB) from Flin Flon Water, MB (CJK8) to Thompson Water, ON (CKD6) inbound declared a mayday with an engine failure and landed safely on the Burntwood River approximately 9 SW of Thompson, MB (CYTH). Approximately 3 minutes later C-FENB departed for...

Re: On Board Video - Bonanza engine out off field landing Al
This is a very disciplined response to an engine failure at the worst possible time. It does indeed look like he didn't have much energy left for the flare. To be fair, though, his chances of keeping the airplane undamaged it that situation were pretty slim anyway and I'm glad he was able to walk aw...

Re: RCMP officer charged after aircraft accident/incident.
I am sure some people here will disagree, but low-level buzz jobs are just a form of adolescent behavior. An equivalent of street racing, basically. I don't find anything impressive about either of the two activities. And as far as the absence of a TSB investigation goes...Well, perhaps, there is in...

Even if it didn't directly cause the accident, the effect of this kind...

Re: Cessna 175 in Cache County-Utah, Onboard Video
Setting the prop control to full fine will simply allow the engine to develop the most power it can with an already low manifold pressure and, hopefully, allow for a slower descent and more time to melt the ice in the carburetor. Of course, if the engine is developing so little power that the blades...

Re: Cessna 175 in Cache County-Utah, Onboard Video
Cat, if you already have an unwanted restriction to airflow due to ice adhering to the walls of the venturi and intake risers, why would you not want to minimize the restriction created by a partially closed butterfly valve? Not to mention that opening the throttle and increasing RPM will give you t...

Re: Cessna 175 in Cache County-Utah, Onboard Video
Yes, maybe this wasn't the best outcome, but what matters the most is that everyone got out unharmed. I also applaud the passengers for the complete absence of panic they displayed. As far as the subject of carb icing is concerned, though, I would like to remind that in addition to the obvious actio...

Re: Snow Lake Crash Nov18
My condolences to the Gogal family. What I find rather strange, considering the tragic outcome of this accident, is that the nose and the pilot side of the cockpit remained practically intact (even the plexiglass is undamaged). Right side of the fuselage is torn open and yet all passengers survived....

Re: Canadair CL415 vs. Beriev Be200
Be-200 is a proven, capable design; however, I don't believe it will ever be seen working in Canada since the logistics of operating even a couple of them here are probably just overwhelming. Certification will certainly be an issue since this machine has been designed with a completely different se...

Re: Does this seem a bit crazy to you?
I have never flown an airplane equipped with a BRS. What is the minimal altitude at which its deployment can save the occupants from serious injuries? I had an impression that as much as 1,000 ft (or more) is needed to bring the ROD to some survivable value.

Re: Does this seem a bit crazy to you?
Why would you say that? He seems like a very proficient pilot, and if he is qualified for surface (or low level, I'm not sure of the real term) aerobatics and his airplane is strong enough, I don't see anything stupid about all this. Spectrum Beaver, like many other similar ultralights, has limit l...

Re: Crash @ North Spirit Lake Ont (4 dead, 1 survivor)
Cncpc, I think you've made an error while entering the coordinates. The accident site is pretty much on the center-line for approach to RWY13. I've plugged the numbers into Google too and the spot was exactly where it showed on SKYPILOT1956's screenshot. Also, I have reasons to believe that TSB is u...

Oh, I see. So like many self-respecting medical practitioners, young Dr. House decided to go and learn to fly. Now, has anybody informed him of the life expectancy of a doctor in an airplane?!

Re: Helicopter Hog Huntin'
Interesting flying. Although to be honest, this is not hunting - nor can it be called a sport. It is just plain slaughter with no purpose other than killing. For hunting to be genuine and sportsmanlike, an animal must have a fair chance of escape. That's my opinion, at least.

^Reasonable point. I don't drink myself - gave up years ago. It's just not my thing, I guess. Drunk or tipsy socializing with a group of people who don't know you well can have consequences completely opposite to what is desired.

Aircraft contacted airport radio with one minute ETA. Did not call entering the MF zone. The primary reason for the "alleged violation" in this report was that he established initial contact while already in the MF zone. If you guys think that this is actually OK...well, then I don't even know what...

I find it rather ridiculous that they've included that future yuppie killer, the ICON A5, which, according to my sources, hasn't even reached the production stage yet (nor will it have until at least 2013). The marketing of that...err...jet ski with wings is quite aggressive to say the least.
