Re: Seasonal Pilots - Do you get Overtime & Benefits?

I would bet that not one of those pilots behind you will give two shits after you lose you job standing up for what is right.

If you haven't experienced this concept, you will learn it the hard way.

Re: Typical instructor salary

For 3s and 4s, I've seen as low as $17 to as high as $40 per flight hour.
Factor in the time you spend at the airport waiting, prepping, ramping, fueling, cancelling, and other free work (no shortage of that)...you're lucky if it does better than minimum wage over the course of a year.

Re: SBT

You dont teach someone how to fly by testing. You test after they have the skills.
It is not flight sim where you dream up a challange and they attempt it.
This is yet another reason why it's taking a lot of instructors 120 hours to finish a PPL...they don't stick to the basics.

Re: Any instructors using the Ipad for PGI visual aids ?

Here's a better question. Any flight instructors out there that can afford an Ipad? Sure there are...only they depend on the bank of mom and dad. iPad and ppt have their place in flight training for those that build the presentations properly. The concepts from the FIG can be applied eff...

Re: No Solo Multi Engine Rentals

The only flight school twins I've seen land gear up had instructors on board. Does that mean anything? Maybe, maybe not, after-all I've only seen a handful... Wait, maybe it has taught me that the average instructor teaching ME ratings is far too inexperienced. It means that there's no flight test ...

Re: 5 air exercises that IMO every CPL Instructor should do

I really wonder sometimes when instructors are going stop doing so many scenarios and simulations and just spend the time teaching students how to fly the bloody plane well. +1 Basics have to be mastered by the student, not just taught by the instructor once or twice. If a CPL student can't even co...

Re: Here's an interesting method of building hours.

Basically if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, TC is gonna try and nail you for it Then maybe we should let TC worry about it. There's a lot worse things happening in this industry that need their attention. Some PPL trying to get flight time definitely does not deserve the same attention, ...

Re: Diamond Training Question - Soft Field

There's nothing wrong with doing it either of the 2 ways suggested earlier. This plane will perform well on grass with both techniques. It obviously wasn't built for real rough strips, it's a docile trainer and a Sunday flier.

Could be that the A1's fuel valve is not visible from the right seat. Also difficult to reach for some people.

Scam or not, right now there's too many job opportunities with a turbine engine attached to them to be worrying about a 206 job with no details in the ad.

The . ATPL is fairly good, too. Write 'em to 90-something percent and then do the real ones. Can't lose.

A perfect record is difficult to obtain due to the numerous factors in flight training and testing. There's lots of good, competent instructors with 70 and 80 percent pass rates that deserve to upgrade.

essentially the instructor gets rewarded if a student fails but that's the way the reg is written
It's not really a reward, it's simply that 70% of your last 10 recommends must be successful, which seems like fair ball.

If Canada were to regulate schools like they do in the USA The American system (Part 61 in particular) is a good model for public students. If it were used in Canada, it would free up a lot of monetary resources that are wasted on paying for paperwork exercises. I can think of a dozen places off th...

Re: Student Confidence Crisis

The FIG is a dry read at first, but the ideas contained in the document really do work when they are used correctly. I believe many instructors slide through this guide just enough to get through exams which is unfortunate. I also have noticed that many Class 1s don`t teach their Class 4 candidates ...
