Re: **UPDATED** Cold Altitude Correction - IPhone & BlackBer
I've just heard from someone else who was skeptical about the app given the thread here. He did end up downloading it after talking to me, and reported back that it looks fine to him. :-) He did have some UI/feature suggestions (like emailing/printing) which I think makes sense; so we'll do an updat...

Re: Real Life IFR Exposure
Just curious... you say there's no approaches at your airport... which airport is it? I agree with your concerns, IMC experience aside, there's a lot more to IFR flight than just flying through clouds. For example... my IFR instructor was top draw (Webster winner), but really didn't have any real wo...

Homebuilt C130? !
A friend of mine came across this plane the other day.
Call me crazy, but I want it!
Simply the most awesome homebuild I ever saw.

Spotted in Stratford.

Re: IFR Differences between Canada and the US
I'll do the occasional flight down to the US, either Chicago, Teterboro, or more often right down to Boca Raton Florida (that's some pretty busy space let me tell you). Occasionally I'll get some terminology that I'm not clear on, so I just ask. PS - I love it when they pronounce my call sign as "Ca...

Re: Cleared for the ILS Via...
That's been my experience. Heading to Sarnia from Toronto I'll either ask for GOVAD or it's offered. It's at about 90 degrees from the runway. And half the time I'll be asked "Are you able to navigate from there onto final?". Sometimes I say yes, sometimes no. ATC is always happy to oblige.

You know, after over 4 decades in this business I constantly learn something new. For example, I did not know that speaking a language other than English hampered your ability to work on aircraft. How does the rest of the world ever manage? I don't believe we was talking about mechanics speaking En...

Nicocopter,
Judging by your name, I assume you're an RC Helicopter guy now?
What kind of machines do you have?
(I'm also an RC guy - albeit intermediate skill levels with planes and some with helicopters)

I don't know if this helps, but there are companies out there that use RC helicopters routinely to do tower inspections.
Google Tower Inspections RC Helicopter and that may lead you to some people who routinely do what you're trying to do.

Re: Navajo Groundschool, In-Flight and Group 1 Renewal
A Navajo is going to cost twice as much as a Duchess or Seminole, and 4 hours in the plane is IMO going to make no difference to your chances of getting hired. If any of my students asked me if they should take such a course I would emphatically say no. The place to learn how to fly a Ho is the pla...

Bad review on it so it can't be the one you're talking about (8x 1 stars and 1x 2 stars).
Who's the developer?

All the apple hating tech nerd buddies have androids.. I think merely in spite. Close. They like it because of End User Licensing. Android is flying in popularity because you can do just about anything you want with it. Enthusiast's pull it apart and make there own operating systems, customize it, ...

And to clarify... no alt filing in Canada is only available to commercial ops. Private guys, or even private company planes that are not operating under an OC have to file for an Alternate.

So, not good news. Nav Canada is not keen on releasing copyrights to anyone except for "approved vendors." Here is the reply I got: NAV CANADA is legislatively responsible for the provision of all aeronautical data, and therefore cannot grant permission for the redistribution of this information to...

Re: Thoughts on Maintenance Tracker app on iPhone
Yeah - the iPhone market has REALLY pushed down prices. $1 apps are deplorable and appears to be a necessary evil. It's very much like the music bizz. 99% of the musicians/iPhone programmers don't make a killing on one song/app. Rather, they have a large body of work which individually doesn't amoun...

Re: Thoughts on Maintenance Tracker app on iPhone
Great idea. However, I hate all things Apple/iPhone. I don't know why developers don't make such great apps for android. There's a lot of reasons why. ;-) I won't bore you with the nitty gritty details here but in point form... - 8 to 10 times more expensive in dev costs for platforms like Blackber...

Re: GPS direct vs. "Preferred IFR routes"
It is my understanding that you can file whatever routing you want with FSS. The routing that you get with your clearance from ATC will depend on the airspace, available altitudes, as well as how busy the airspace is at the time of your flight. It is this initial clearance that will determine your ...

Re: Thoughts on Maintenance Tracker app on iPhone
Thanks for the feedback so far. So here's a situation where the app is designed to help. 1) During a 100hr inspection a much of things are done to say... a Navajo... and are put into the Journey Log. Wording on some of those things may not match up exactly to the working you might be tracking in a s...

Hi everyone. So there's an app nearing the end of the development process, and I thought I'd post some information here to get some feedback. Re: GPS direct vs. "Preferred IFR routes"
You'll have to file preferred but once you're wheels up you'll probably get direct anyhow.
The filing of preferred is so everyone knows what to expect and keeps you out of everyone's wat in case your radio goes dead.
