Re: FA STRIKE LOOMING?
What was the approximate number in favor for a strike vote ? I understand this would be frustrating for pilots and other staff, however, having two pay scales for the same position is dangerous. It divides the group and creates further problems down the road by creating a toxic work environment. We ...

Re: Quarterly loss
Hahaha...big whoop, we lost 20 million for the first time in 13 years!!!! I guess we should forget the last 1 billion in profit over last 3 years. Hahaha. 2018, will still be a profit year! Westjet will be targetting $500million (public projections 2019 onwards) in profit/year and pilots will be get...

Re: Westjet mainline commuting
I would agree with Transoceanic assessment of the EVP changes this summer... the main Execs. who built swoop and other dramatic business changes over the last 2-5 years are gone. There is one more wrong to right....and then all the new blood will be driving this airline into the next 5 years with a ...

Re: Gloom & Doom Q2 outlook...are you kidding?
New info has come up indicating that swoop pilots will NOT be fired. I was hoping this wasnt true. I heard its 24 swoop pilots in question...as of May 29. Hoping they voluntarily quit, or pressured to leave within 1st day, or week, month, year. Did anyone see the swoop captain ad that's was posted t...

Swoop pilots will not be accepted at Westjet or Encore. There is no line indoc concerns, because its a moot point.

I agree...great day for westjet/encore pilots. Scope and job protection for years to come. When the wawcons are released on CA day, it will also be a good day. All westjet pilots should celebrate this tonight while ex-swoop pilots are moping preparing resumes.

Re: Captain Upgrade Times
It could be as long as 6 years to flow. There is 500 encore pilots in line to flow. Our best year of flow was 80 pilots. Do the math...6 years × 80 pilots is ~ 500 pilots. Those are in optimal hiring conditions. If your coming to encore prepare for 5+ years to flow, and from date of hire on the prop...

Don't let "sqwak" extremely juvenile comments divide you. Air Canada pilots have been through this, and more, over the last 5 decades. They have a backbone.

Re: Gregg Saretsky is the modern Frank Lorenzo
Tbaylx- we are trying to negotiate a progressive contract. Discussions underway to alleviate pilots from starting at the bottom. Atleast within our company. Again negotiating our worth. This is similar to YOS, but since encore and westjet are united together, and hold a truly unique seniority list, ...

Re: Gregg Saretsky is the modern Frank Lorenzo
Again - missing the point. @complexintentions The viability of Swoop is debatable. What I hear you saying- If swoop can make money and improve revenues - pilots should work for less and just accept whatever letter of offer. Why can't employees/pilots negotiate for wages that we want instead of just ...

Re: Gregg Saretsky is the modern Frank Lorenzo
Tbaylx- you kinda are annoying to listen to, your condescending tone bothers me. You clearly don't understand the current areegment, the fundamentals of a statutory freeze, and the common goal Westjet/encore pilots are working for. We are negotiating for a progressive contract. Your answer to the la...

You think working at Swoop under the current wawcon being offered will be better than "flying the flag" or koolaid prop spinners?? You will be overworked and underpaid while having no definite senirorty list, no representation, and no future other than swoop WHILE being resented. Sounds not worth an...

OP sounds a little emotional and on edge from last week's news. This is all part of negotiations. Let the professionals at ALPA and the trusted MEC do their jobs.
Nobody wants a successful outcome more than ALPA and MEC.

Re: Flair in YYZ/YVR
From what I've been reading and researching, I would agree with this. Flair CASM is close to Westjet Mainline at 11cents. (westjet 12.3) Swoop is targeting 6 or 7 cents, the airplane type and configuration makes this CASM a possibility. Swoop will be able to operate more reliable and cheaper service...

Swoop is something to consider when applying to Encore. We are learning how it will affect encore more and more everyday.
Flair will be challenged to compete with swoop, if you've seen the recent Casm from flair and the projected casm from swoop.

Re: Things to Consider if Considering Encore
I would agree with Mr. JBI initial post. I have been here two years and I'm noticing a shift in opportunity in the big picture of aviation, mainly because Swoop is a priority for management, thus casuing alot of negative sentiment towards a pilots career at Westjet. ONE of the reasons, we brought in...

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Your missing the point. It's not so much the money for everyone, as it's more of the opportunity, is why pilots would apply to swoop. And opportunity looks different for everyone. Swoop Captain and FO positions are attractive to all junior regional Airline pilots... It equals more money and more air...

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose
The problem with removing the pilots from the "one list" because they accept a position at swoop is that it creates "whipsawwing". The pilots at swoop will start to compete with Classic pilots (westjet) pilots for routes, aircraft, contracts, expansion. The best way, IMO, is to keep everyone on the ...

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose
No one is perfect and nothing is perfect. If some Westjet pilots feel they made a mistake by believing mgmt on WAWCON that Encore was going to get, they have learned from that. That's called maturing... What's happening now, in my eyes, is the westjet pilots are standing up and trying to stick up fo...

Re: Meet Swoop - WestJet's ultra-low-cost carrier has a name, a home and a purpose
Yup I agree. ALPA reinforcement was called in and put in place at the exact right time. However, we (pilots) are not running the company, the board of directors are, we just work there. Our best chance is staying untied as professionals, this means Encore and Westjet pilots togther. When the company...
