Re: 2024 GS Schedule?
Also relaize that WJ mgmt is combining three (3) airlines and potentially Encore too, into one mega flight operations division. By combining 3 pilot groups into one flight operation and potentially a fourth pilot group, several efficiencies are produced. I think 2024 is going to align the pilots wit...

Re: Is this Correct?
Westjet pilot list is shrinking. Recruiting is ongoing but more pilots are quitting then being hired. We are definetly not growing by 400 pilots this year - unless CA2 provides significant improvements, then recruiting could have a fighting chance to maybe meet 200 new hires for back half of 2023.

Re: Retention Bonus Announced
Just so everyone is clear - the long service award is applied company wide to all employees. It's not an announcement to do with pilots specifically and labour negotiations with ALPA. The announcement is just furthering the company's plan to keep improving operations company wide and address the emp...

Re: Flair’s new routes?
Westjet and jazz can barely fill a small turboprop to Calgary from lethbridge or from PG to Vancouver. There will have to be alot of market stimulation that is extremely ambitious by Flair to fly 737s to Tucson. Tucson is nothing to wrote home about. Wow.

Re: Flair’s new routes?
I heard that flair mgmt/HR was advertising to new hire with information sheets that jump seat agreements were available with westjet. I think there was some policy contravention in regards to Jumpseat rules.

Re: Brace for impact
ALPA will be organizing a vote to cancel the PTA among the WestJet mainline and swoop pilots. The outcome will be the outcome. More to follow.
Eliminate isn't the right word to describe the situation, if the PTA gets cancelled it can be renegotiated.

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop
Swoop CPT doesn't pay much higher than WS FO. So essentially WS FO step 4/5 your breaking even with swoop captain. Especially if a pilot flows from encore to swoop because that pilot gets a retention bonus of $1200t/mth for 2 years. Swoop Cpt is not easily commutatable. Also less resources in terms ...

Re: First Max
Flair will ride the wave of customer demand happening now or about to happen in Canada. The test will be how well there operate their Maxs throughout this business cycle. Max's are reliable, high dispatch rate, comfortable airplanes. If flair has an effective OCC center, they should achieve profitab...

Re: Anyone see any parallels?
Ya could be...but westjet is most likely hyper focused on keeping their group of 3 companies intact and profitable, along side a new ownership group as well developing a relationship with Delta in form of a joint venture. If transat is still looking for a buyer in 3 or 5 years, westjet/onex could st...

Re: More WJ layoffs
The way the company conducted the bids was highly controversial imo. 6-8 year seniority westjet pilots bid yyc/yyz captain at$82/hr, but they didn't bid yyc fo at $56/hr. The bid was run, and some couldn't hold captain so they go on furlough. The following day (literally) encore announces a recall a...
