Re: "Taxi only" flight

I haven't seem the entries in the pilot personal logbooks, but a few times I have seen aircraft (703/704 types) journey logs that had entries of 0.0 air time, 0.1 or 0.2 flight time due to mechanical issues, for instance a flat tire due to fod on the taxiway, and another where they had a computer fa...

Re: Bendix/King KLN 35A

I don't know anything about the KLN 35A, but I had a simaler problem in another GPS years ago, turned out it had a back up battery and it had failed (shorted internally). One new $250 battery pack and away we went again. Something to look at maybe?

Re: Removing exhast discoloration

3M makes a product I have used, it's called Perfect It rubbing compound #06085, its available at napa and acklands, although it may be special order. It is a rubbing compound designed to take fine scratches out of paint, it worked really well on exhaust stains. It really brightened up the paint as w...

Are you thinking Wilderness Tires? Hi Float gear is a total different gear leg, actuator, some different strutural members, doors, etc.

The wilderness tires for the 200 is STC SA00184LA

If you look on faa.gov you can find the rest of the info.

Re: Restoring paint

I've used PEEK polish to take the oxidation off the paint. It's available in quart cans at Goulet Aircraft supply, and probably other places. 3M makes a rubbing compound called Perfect-It, it's sold at Acklands. I can't remember what # it was, but it came in a magenta bottle. It's a pretty good prod...

Re: M2 Training Course

There are no training courses that will provide you with an M2 license at the end of them. That's not the way it works to get your Canadian AME license. All schools in Canada provide BASIC training. I don't know how to link to an external site, but here's the jist of it: As per Cars (Airworthiness M...

Re: SFOH

In the States an A&P can do an engine overhaul under his or her own certificate, in his or her backyard or garage. This can lead to questionable quality sometimes. Having an overhaul done at the factory would be more expensive, but in theory would produce better results. Not saying every time, some ...

Headsets, wands, heavy chocks, vests etc you could get from your local industrial supply store, like Acklands Grainger, or Century Vallen. Tronair is a good source for aircraft specific stuff, so is Brackett Aircraft

There is another book I have seen called Aviation Regulations Simplified, but from what I have seen and heard, it makes reading the CAR's on the web look appealing! I don't know of any other books though... I don't know where to get that book or who wrote it, sorry.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!

How far out of date are you talking? First edition? You might want to buy the new one, it's only 40 bucks... Otherwise, do the exams in the back until you can do them and pass with 90-100% every time. If you really, really can't do it, Stevenson Aviation has a refresher course (I hope it's still off...

Re: KA 200 pressurization/heating issue

I have dealt with almost an identical snag and it turned out ours was a leaky fuselage. In the AMM Chapter 21 there is a flight test procedure that will likely point you towards that as well. I bet your varing max diff will change based on outside air temp, altitude (better up to about 16000, then w...

Re: Top ten things we wish pilots understood

I wish pilots would understand how the systems work. Not how they think it should work, but how it actually does. I think the best way to know your aircraft is to work with maintenance a bit. Ask the questions that drive us nuts... what's this, what does it do, why does it do that. But remember, not...

If you check the Canadian Border Services website it will tell you how many Cigars, How many cigarillos (or cigarettes) and how many bottles of booze you cah bring home, dependant on how long you stay. And just fly direct to Cuba from Toronto, no problems with customs when I brought cigars back.

The problem with the schools is they spoon feed the students. They are not allowed to think for themselves. The schools are being paid to graduate students, not flunk them out even if they deserve it, so they dumb down the program as much as they can get away with.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: King Air 220 Equipment

For the Beech Hydraulic Gear ( I don't know that S/N that started at, but it was in the mid 80's I think) you are strongly recommended (per the MM instructions) to put hydraulic head pressure on the power pack so the pump doesnt cav. It does make a lot of noise when you forget/don't use the air, but...
