Re: Westjet CYHZ
Just for my curiosity:- Does dispatch not look at landing distance as part of the pre-departure paperwork? Is there a requirement to compute landing distance at Canadian carriers? My company uses the airbus flysmart software - very easy to use. Boeing must have something similar - I was using a lap...

Re: looking for a tour of WestJet's Flight Operation Center
I don't know what your experience is, but I have a friend who had a CPL and he sure had to study for the exams. Your best bet is to review an ATPL exam workbook. It is the same exam for the ATPL and the FD certificate. Myself I read the . book and the Air Command Weather manual cover to cover and th...

only to find out that airlines such as Canjet and Sunwing shamelessly bring in foreign pilots without having an equivalent number of pilots going overseas on a reciprocal agreement. Canjet brought in 40 pilots from overseas and sent 20 Canadians over last summer, with a plan to increase that as muc...

Re: Grounding Foreign Pilots
So would it be better to hire Canadian pilots for 6 months and then lay them all off? I am not trying to be sarcastic here, but since that flying work is so seasonal what other solution is there? Should pilots then be expected to come with their NG rating too? I can't imagine it's economical to do a...

It's a shame to see such a bland CS on the Jazz Dash 8's. I would much rather have seen them in the old technicolour leaves.

Funny. Just one english language forum for X-Plane has 174100 members. Sure we may be a small community, but we are still there and growing every day. Which X-Plane addons have you worked on?
To the OP, If you want to know what it is like, download and check out the free demo. To each their own.

Re: flight sim
Have you ever seriously tried X-Plane? It's been my experience that people who say blanket statements like X-Plane sucks have never really tried it. I've seriously tried FSX and still prefer X-Plane. They both have their good points. I like x-plane. It runs better, feels better and gets better perfo...

Would it be legal once legislated back to work to then "Work to Rule"? I imagine that would still cause disruption and would be bad for AC. (Not extending duty time... etc)

Yes, but that will be the first public beta, which they sell as a 'Release' and then have periodic updates. From my experience (with 5 version updates and all the minor ones) with the sim you won't see a stable release until April/May. That's not to say that the sim won't be any good, but Laminar Re...

Re: flight sim
Or Buy X-Plane now for $30 and enjoy it until next summer which is when the new release will likely be more or less stable if they release at xmas. If you like X-Plane then, by all means buy 10, but for 30$ its kind of hard to go wrong getting 9 now. Plus the new release will likely be around $100 U...

Escort Required passes were all changed to be Search Required last year, or so I was told. When I got my Yellow pass, I was one of the first at my airport to not require an escort, only the search. Is that not something done nationwide?

Re: Giving advice.
I can't really speak as a pilot, but one of the biggest things I wish would change as a dispatcher is to get pilot feedback on the flight plans that I make. If there is something that I do wrong or could improve on and I am not catching it, I'd like the pilots to speak up and tell me so I can fix it...

WestJet Dispatcher Training
Hi Guys, I am just wondering what the Dispatch training looks like at WestJet. I understand that it's 6 weeks of ground school followed by a couple of months OJT on the desk, but does anyone know how the ground school is broken down (Exam once at the end, exam each week, timeline for the topics cove...

Re: Y type flight plans / fuel requirements
Would it not be IFR requirements since you are departing IFR? (CARS normally start with something like... No person shall depart on an IFR Flight plan...)?
Good question.
