Re: Did Encore MEC insist on no back flow?

JBI This particular rumour started from one of our captains who claimed to hear it directly from our CEO. The captain is well respected with no reason to make it up. If it’s not true the westjet/encore MECs should set us straight in writing. As it is now, if one believes this rumour, it would appear...

Did Encore MEC insist on no back flow?

As mentioned in another post, there is a pretty strong rumour that it was the Encore MEC who rejected the bump and flush language in the failed LOU. If this is true, the Encore pilots should be asking their MEC why the MEC insisted on this. If the flow down ability had been in the failed LOU, it wou...

Re: OTS WesJet Mainline FO

One thing your average Encore pilot won’t tell you is that during their interview they were asked if they understood the “One List?” They were also made to understand that the list was nothing more than a handshake and was not enshrined in anything. It was also made clear that it could go away. Lon...

Re: One List

Fine and dandy to proclaim "true one list". Riddle me this scenario: Lets say 10 pilots are hired at WJ/WJE and they are botl. They are pilots #2001-2010 on the "true one list" #2001-5 are WJ mainline #2006-10 are WJE There are 400+ Encore pilots waiting to flow above all these new hires. Let's say...

Ok, fair enough.

Can you now post why a proposed one list would go against the article in the CBA that you referenced?

Re: A "NEW" One List?

Whoever is at the bottom of the "one list" gets laid off. Doesn't matter if its a Dash guy or a 737 guy or a 767 guy or a 787 guy. That's the idea of "one list". Agreed, and I would love that, but how does this get done if it violates the mainline Collective Agreement? Well, I’m not the lawyer, lol...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

How about this; if we truly want “one list” then make it one list. If there are layoffs to be made, then the layoffs start at the bottom of the list. Doesn’t matter where they are(Encore or Mainline), whoever is at the bottom gets laid off. I'm definitely in favour of this. However, what if its the...

Re: Are things now better for WJ pilots?

Who wants to be forced to take a job at Encore (if laid off)? That’s a prime opportunity to pick up a lucrative contract or go back to the bush for a season or travel. If the next iteration of the one list forces me to fly a Q, I’ll vote no to that. What a mess :( Ahhh, the infamous "That's a prime...

So let's say the LOU gets fixed up with wording to protect certain things that you guys were concerned about (layoff protection, etc.)...Would you guys vote "yes" to it?
I think we’re trying to mandate the MEC do something better than that. Hopefully the MEC’s will have a comm out soon

Re: One list

Now, for Biff and ex-DC10 driver and sarg, it looks like I have been proven wrong that even after a failed LOA, the WJ MEC is looking at different options and wording. I'm happy to be wrong on this. I hope that we can continue working on this to protect pilot unity at WestJet. Cheers No worries bud...

What DYNA said...

I believe there will be a motion passed tomorrow night guys. The MEC will be mandated to renegotiate. If all the emotion I’m hearing here is real(and I’m sure it is), then the company would be stupid to not join us at the table. Don’t overreact until it’s over.

Re: WestJet to be sold in friendly deal to Onex Corp. for $5 billion

Onex bought the company to make a 2x profit over the medium term. The only way to do that is to grow. I see a pretty big 787 order coming down within the next year. Growing is not necessarily the only way to add value. Taking WestJet back to its core strategy, and selling of components would impres...

Re: One list

As an aside, you seem to enjoy spouting your lawyering credentials. I have a question. If all lawyers are as sure of their position as you seem to be, why do we need judges in this country? Perhaps it's because people with less topical knowledge insist on arguing endlessly like yourself. Oh...the i...

I’ve heard of none of the MEC’s asking you still not to go to Swoop(please correct me if the Encore MEC has put out a memo requesting you still not go). The Encore MEC has provided the information regarding Swoop however has indicated that it does not recommend Encore pilots going to Swoop due to t...

Re: One list

We’re not “screwing over our Encore brothers and sisters”. We’re standing up for ourselves(and for our Encore brothers and sisters when they flow over). Don’t worry, a large percentage of our pilot group still wants some form of one list. The company wants some form of one list. We, the pilot group...

Re: One list

Voting no will just make Swoop more attractive (if it could be at all). Instead of letting it fizzle out and squashing it like a bug, Swoop will grow to be a bigger thorn in your side. But I guess it's all about me me me again... unity can go fly a kite. Who cares. Swoop is going to be crewed eithe...

Re: One list

A "no" vote means ALPA can go back to the company and ask to rework it. There is NOTHING requiring the company to agree so. Maybe the company will come to the table or maybe they'll just say "nah, bro, I'm good" or maybe they'll just come to the Encore MEC and sweeten the pot on the Encore deal. In...

Re: One list

I don't think that simply saying yes but then cancelling it is the way to go, but it offers significant protection for the mainline pilots if things don't go smoothly. Honest question then, why would the company renegotiate after the mainline pilots vote no? If I were in their position I certainly ...

Re: One list

JBI A “no” vote means the company and ALPA go back and rework it. A “yes” vote means we are happy with it and don’t want any changes. It’s as simple as that. To suggest the 90 day clause will be acted upon is strange. “Vote yes now and we will cancel it right away”. Is that even legal? If I was the ...
