Re: Cooking Lake Flight Academy
I have flow at Moncton and at Cooking Lake. Moncton is a way busier airspace due to training/nutty Chinese students everywhere. Cooking Lake is defiantly not the 24 hour busy operation MFC is. Cooking Lake is a quiet airport and a quiet school. It gets busy during the weekend if the weather is good....

Re: Buffalo in YZF
It does look like that "stick like object" is pushed beyond its normal 90 degree gear down position. Maybe we can assume the gear is partially collapsed. The aircraft is situated well left of the runway, I am wondering if the intentionally landed in the snow? It is interesting because the snow is cu...

Re: Moncton FLight College
Whatever you do make sure you pay as you go/pay by the hour. I have to disagree regarding the Chinese no paying - the fact is the school was badly mismanaged. If you can go elsewhere. They are fresh out of financial restructuring. Flight training is a huge investment and really when it comes down to...

R.I.P - Paul Laserich (Memorial Service)
I am greatly saddened to announce Paul Laserich passed away in Yellowknife yesterday evening.
My thoughts & prayers go out to the Adlair & Laserich family's.
R.I.P Paul, you were quite a guy and you will be missed by the Yellowknife aviation community.

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
If you ever actually met Mikey you would realize he is a genuinely good guy and a hard worker, I would say don't judge a book by it's cover. And his gear is actually pretty cool, some clever marketing for sure.. I really don't understand the "paid advertisement" thing, what is up with that?? Very co...

Re: Your airplanes are crap/great!
The fact is that you will most likely not see glass until far into your career. Especially not for your first job out of flight school... It will be interesting to see how one might progress from completing ALL training in aircraft such as G1000 C172's & light twins. Then move on to aircraft such as...

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
I kinda felt bad for Audrey. She put in a lot of time with Buffalo and she seemed to be a damn hard worker. A person like her has the potential to do well in this industry (Straight from Joe's mouth). She's always smiling and almost always in a good mood no matter what kind of sh*t they throw her wa...

Need freelance instuctor in Yellowknife
I am looking for a freelance instructor in Yellowknife. Please PM me if you have a valid instructor rating and are located in Yellowknife. I need to finish up some training and would rather do it here in YZF in my own aircraft. Alternatively I would be willing to provide room and board to an instruc...

Re: Better search and rescue in the north
Those twin otters are highly tasked to fly further north than most of the northern operators in all of Yellowknife. I would have to disagree with this statement. Our aircraft regularly visit locations such as Alert, Eureka, Many DEW line sites, Greenland, prepared and unprepared strips/lakes/frozen...

I met you in Yellowknife at our float base! Congrats on finding work my friend! If you had shown up in the spring there would have been plenty of work. Enjoy the NWT and the Nahanni area, this is the start of an amazing experience! Good to see a fellow MFC'er working in the north!! I believe the veh...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
For those interested there will be a memorial service tonight at Arctic Sunwest for friends and family and anyone affected by this tragedy. A bunch of the companies here in YZF will be conducting a fly-by in respect to everyone involved and the good folks over at First Air. I can't imagine someone w...

Not to speculate, but knowing that there were only three survivors, would that mean it was was the two Flight Attendants and the little girls? Just found out who the crew members were. No crew members made it, one of the young girls did... Do you mean now that both flight attendants have not made i...

Re: Participate in Two-Seater in Havelock, NB?
FYI - I pay under $200 per year for liability insurance on a Cessna 150 through Marsh Insurance (COPA Silver Wing Program).
My biggest cost is AVGAS which is getting pricey in the north yet still cheaper then renting down south. Thinking about a MOGAS STC.

Quote: I'd say it totally depends on the person. One thing is certain, thundering around in a 150 for a few hundred hours isn't going to make the precess any easier and will probably do the opposite. Agreed. What if the said Cessna 150 were to have a tail wheel conversion, a 150 HP upgrad...

Re: The battle of the low-time pilot
Hello DaveCachia, Where are you located? I recently bough a 1976 Cessna 150M here in Canada for $15,000. The engine is mid time, under 5000 hours on the airframe and the bird is in very good shape considering it had not flown for several years. Prior to purchasing the airplane I was very hesitant. I...

digits, I'm wondering what you have decided in regards to routing.
A trip along the eastern Arctic would be hard to plan as last time I checked Churchill no longer supplied AVGAS. I guess you could always go Thompson direct Rankin but that is a bit of a long haul.
