Re: Bombardier to relocate its Global aircraft final assembly site

They already have a Go Fund Me campaign. I believe it was listed under the non-profit section. In case you missed it, they had one backer who on behalf of 35 million people helped Bombardier exceed their goal of $500 million by an extra billion or so. At least on kickstarter and indigogo you get som...

]This just in - 24 hours after my last post, DeHaviland is looking at a Austin Mini with an LS and maybe a stretched Yugo.

Re: The sad state of regional pilots in Canada

You could remove the word Regional out of your subject and it would still be true. What is Air Canada's 4 year flat pay again - $55k-ish? I've worked abroad and any of those hiring bonuses are just for 'merikan pilots and maybe the odd Chinese operator who is desperate. Maybe when Boeing gets their ...

Re: Bombardier to relocate its Global aircraft final assembly site

Hopefully they make a Q300ng and a Q400ng. Somebody's gotta compete with ATR. After this long, I'm sure there's lots of room for improvement. There was lots of room for improvment when the Q400 was first released. Too bad all they did was take a Yugo and put an LS engine in it. https://www.autoguid...

Re: Canadian housing Prices / Wages

Another thought on housing: Blame rent control. Yeah really. Blame the government. Why would anyone build rental housing when they can't ever raise prices? Since they brought it in over here -- several big rental projects -- cancelled. Rent control always makes it worse. Every time. The free market...

Hello guys/gals,

Lately, I was thinking about something interesting to ask and to learn from. I was wondering if some of you would share what was the scariest thing that have ever happened to you in your pilot career.

Thanks!

Re: AVRO 100 First Officer or King Air 200 Captain

Typo on my part. Should have been 50. Is it arbitrary? Absolutely. Non-type rated positions often have these arbitrary limits imposed. A modern jet is a modern jet. 99,000 lbs or 150,000 lbs is going to have a similar flight deck, SOP's and similar challenges. I fail to see how flying a 767 on mediu...

Re: AVRO 100 First Officer or King Air 200 Captain

I missed the part about being 50 years old. That's getting close to the cutoff point for overseas work at some airlines. It also changes how one would look at going to AC. It probably stacks the deck towards the intangible - lifestyle. Both jobs probably pay about the same and have similar benefits ...

Re: AVRO 100 First Officer or King Air 200 Captain

Strictly speaking from a career perspective, 705 jet FO time isn't worth that much. PIC time is key. You'll get further ahead in the long run with PIC time as a general rule. As mentioned, the Avro 100/BAE-146 is a useless type rating. Many overseas operators still require Jet time on types over 40 ...

The aviation industry is directly tied to the economy. In good times, people take frequent holidays, visit relatives and travel; businesses buy and fly corporate jets; airlines expand to new destinations. In recessions, layoffs happen. People tighten their belts. That annual Hawaii vacation gets can...

I can't believe that anyone on here would discourage you from getting a backup career! By all means, if you're willing to put in the effort (it's always easiest while you are young and single) go do something as a backup. In my opinion, trades are the way to go. All the options you've given require ...

Re: King Air PIC or Dash FO?

If the music stopped tomorrow, you'd be better served with some PIC time. PIC always opens more doors than SIC time. Especially if you have no previous multi-turbine PIC in the first place. That FO job will be waiting for you once you get 1000 hours in the left seat anyway.

John - I just don't get what your end game is here. Those of us who launched Encore and did all the heavy lifting for a few years got screwed by the company many times over. Now we have you doing all the heavy lifting to either purposely throw some of us under the bus or aid and abet those that do. ...

Re: Sky Regional Direct Entry Captain Posting - What a Joke

I guess in fairness, Encore had socialized bidding where everyone got an equally crappy schedule.
I don't have a dog in this fight but 2 months to get off of reserve isn't really a long time. How long would it take to get to a position where you had a better schedule once you hold a block?

Re: Sky Regional Direct Entry Captain Posting - What a Joke

Encore was a seniority based system that required DEC's from time to time. Once the matrix was introduced there, some FO's didn't have enough time and experience for an upgrade and new aircraft were scheduled to be delivered. Some people found themselves in a funny position where their FO's had more...

I think my point wasn't that an engine failure can't happen. I know people that have had failures in a Turboprop and Turbojet engine as well (I don't know if I hang out with a bunch of unlucky pilots or what). Piston engine failures can happen no matter the engine. I realize that in a certified airc...

Companies responding to market forces

I noticed an ad by APAS for Hong Kong Airlines posted recently. I seem to remember looking at these positions about a year ago. It was a while ago but IIRC, the contract rates were about half of what is being offered now. It seems like some companies are trying to be competitive rather than be indus...

Everything I have got out of this industry has been because of PIC time. You never know when the crap will hit the fan and you might have to rely on some previous experience. Confirmed. I don't know why these nutbars don't wander over to the edge of the flat disk and just take a picture of the edge.
