Re: Ggn recruiter ad.

I've been posting about the book, "The Next Plane Crash", upon which the National Post article on GGN is partly based. My posts keep getting deleted. Clearly there's moderators that are friends of GGN and don't like a different version of the truth. So much for impartiality on Avcanada......

Re: Jumping from airline to corporate?

In my pre-aviation days at several large multinationals, the rule of thumb for employee cost was salary + 25%. That is what we budgeted when we considered adding one headcount. Of course, that included a slew of non-salary benefits paid by the company, including corporate matching of RRSP contributi...

Re: Flying to CYHU

I would suggest AeroTeknic, a small family-owned old fashioned MRO / FBO / Flight School with an informal and relaxed ambiance. They'll be happy to have you on their ramp. 100LL is available. Give them a heads-up before showing up. The large flight schools mentioned are very impersonal and Pascan is...

Re: Sunwing scabs the industry even further.

I don't begrudge these new pilots - although I did it the old fashioned way, hauling mail bags in a beat up Navajo up North before ever touching a turboprop, let alone a jet. The passenger flying in the back is the one who is ultimately footing the bill and deciding to fly Sunwing over rouge/Transat...

+1. And don't forget the other details, like making sure your return flight plan filed in Canada has been received by American controllers, properly completing the eApis, advising CBSA before you cross the border onyour return and making sure you land at an AOE that is open at your time of arrival. ...

Re: TC to FAA Conversion

The advice on this topic is useful for commercial conversions. But has anyone actually done an ATP conversion since the rules changed a couple of years ago? Specifically, I need to do an ATP CTP course at an FAA-approved school in the USA before doing the conversion wrtitten exam. Does anyone have a...

The correct radio call if flying your 172 in the USA is "XXX Centre, Canadian Skyhawk C-GXYZ".

Re: GATS jar fuel sampler

They are a great product and worth every penny. I've had one on every GA plane I've flown (up to a Navajo). The sample sizes are meaningful (250 ml or more if you wish) and you can pour back the sample into your tank without wasting precious fuel or polluting the environment (Need I say that in 2016...

Completely out of touch with current market realities. Maybe ten years ago, and even then.......

When an ad like this gets posted, it just puts into question the credibility of the rest of the operation.

Re: Changing N reg to C

cgartly, I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Not to avoid paying the import taxes - I'll gladly pay those - but rather to avoid onerous TC regs regarding a privately operated turboprop. Unlike the USA, in Canada there is no such thing (in practice) as a privately operated King Air. Any press...

I was hired by GGN as a new FO at age 52 with 2000 hours. Many of the others are half my age. Not an issue. Go for it.

Fly safe.

Re: To old to become a pilot?

All good answers to the initial post. Guys have indeed started medical training at 50 (most doctors never retire and current life expenctancy hovers around 85 - that would give them a 30 year career. Not bad). I quit my job and started flight training ab initio at 46. I made KA captain at 51. FO at ...

Re: Fleet growth 5 new Qs, 5 new 705 within the next two ye

My math shows the Jazz fleet in 2025 at 96 after recent additions: 49 Q400, 21 CRJ705 and 26 Dash8-300. These numbers are straight out of the Chorus Aviation press release of September 28. Here's the link: http://chorusaviation.ca/2015-09-28-Chorus-Aviation-announces-expansion-of-Jazz-fleet-CPA-cove...

Re: Fleet growth 5 new Qs, 5 new 705 within the next two ye

I have been following the numbers and I just don't see anything positive for Jazz in these announcements. Even with the revised fleet numbers from the recent September 28 press release, the fleet will drop from its current 125 aircraft (27 Q400, 16 CRJ705, 34 Dash8-100, 26 Dash8-300 and 25 CRJ200) t...

Re: New CPA and flowthrough to Air Canada?

When I read the release, what jumps right off the page is a reduction in aircraft and a migration towards turboprops. This in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but hasn't anyone noticed the accompanying numbers? "The up-gauging of aircraft results in a reduction of seat capacity of less ...

For those of you who have never heard "The Shepherd", it is a must listen for any aviation aficionado. It also imparts a wonderful appreciation of radio drama - a lost art in this age of streaming ...

Re: Porter - YHZ Base

I am aware of the YUL-YTZ schedule. However, as a pilot officially based in YTZ, would you not be on call (i.e. 90 or 120 minutes to the gate) much of the time? How would this be possible from YUL? I am just trying to get a handle on how realistic flying for Porter would be for a junior FO living in...
