Re: Phones ON Phones OFF ?
Every cell phone I've ever owned dating up to 10 years ago has had a setting called "flight mode". While I felt it useless in the past it is very useful with the newer smart phones, as it disables any and all tx/rx signals but allows me to use the phone for pre-downloaded music, movies, games ect. I...

Re: Alberta Skydivers in Beiseker
Guys, quit getting your panties in knots. Alberta Skydivers is under new ownership since the string of accidents a few years ago. I worked for Ian in 2007. It was a great first aviation gig. Alberta Skydivers has a contract with the British Military. Through out the summer they get a continuous flo...

freezerburn31. Somehow I knew that was going to be your response. Understand, safety (or lack of) is a culture within a company as a whole, it is not selective nor exclusive. If you don't understand what that means then I hope I never have to fly with you. BL I completely agree with you and that's ...

Re: Alberta Skydivers in Beiseker
What I meant by that is accidents with the skydivers themselves no aircraft accidents that I'm aware of. Skydiving can be a dangerous sport, I'm aware of that. People land hard, get sprained ankles and broken legs. Sometimes people just plum forget to open their chute  I just wanted to hea...

Alberta Skydivers in Beiseker
Has anyone worked for them that would like to share their experience? Only information I can seem to find on them is all the accidents that occurred in the past.

Re: Driving from southern ontario to northern manitoba
One thing you could try is a cargo carrier. One of those metal baskets that hangs from the tow hitch. They are relatively cheap, I just ordered one myself, still waiting for it so I don't know how well it will work yet. I'm guessing you will probably have a class II hitch like mine which means you a...

The company I currently work for already uses actual weights with a scale, so it's not an issue for us.

Re: Cessna 182 Winter Front Questions
I have seen the official ones for a 172 before. It's just some plastic covers that screw into the cowling and blocks part of the airflow. Should only be used when its colder than 20F. I remember the guys telling me it costs about $250 from cessna but that was a few years ago now.

Re: Ear protection
I don't know of any particular brands but a quick google search revealed that moldable silicone or wax plugs should be used instead of regular ear plugs (these ones do not actually go into the ear canal rather cover the hole) head phones are sometimes a better choice as the ear plugs are a choking h...

If you look VERY closely at about 39 - 40 secs in, it appears the carb heat might be off. I wonder if carb ice is to blame?

It seems like everyone is really happy with whatever model they bought, which leads me to believe I can't really go wrong here. So I've decided to get the leatherman wave looks very popular, in my price range, good quality. Thanks for all the input, can't wait to start my new job :D I'll be in Red L...

Re: Favorite aviation movies!
Yes "six days seven nights" was a good movie, loved the makeshift floats on the beaver at the end.
Recently I just watched "The Red Baron" its similar to "Flyboys" but of course from the German perspective and its about the famous German ace Baron Manfred von Richthofen

Multi tools
Hey guys, I'm starting my first dock hand job in red lake on may 1st and I'm making a list of things to bring. One thing that stands out is a multi tool. From reading previous topics the general consensus seems to be a leatherman. So my question is which models would be best suited for flying float ...

Online log books
Do you use them? Which site do you find the best? Commercial or Private? Free or paid? Any other input?

Re: First job advice/tips?
I didn't know EI would pay for ratings like that. I've heard of people getting truck licences through EI before. That's really good to know. I currently live in Alberta, I wonder if it's the same across the country. I'll look more into this
Thanks a lot
