Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Porter was shut down yet didn’t get a bid debt forgiveness AC has 100WB’s flying internationally yet didn’t get debt forgiveness WJ never took any government debt let alone get debt forgiveness. Covid was hardly a Transat problem and I fail to see how it’s in any way fair to the investors of the oth...

Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Not exactly related. This is a restructure of the covid-era shutdown "support" the Trudeau gov't provided, and was critically strangling the balance sheet. Not that I'm not happy they came to their senses and gave some relief, but relief from literal loan shark, double-digit interest terms is reall...

Re: WestJet Encore applies for LMIA to hire foreign pilot
If the experience a friend of mine recently had with the Westjet hiring people they will be hiring TFWs soon enough. They had an in person interview invite presented. All was good but they wanted copy of their radio licence before the interview as part of all the documents one has to submit. They l...

Remember the company (any company) doesn’t care about you as an employee, they just try to do what’s best for the business and if that means you find out a week before that you are being laid off so people don’t jump ship earlier oh well.

If I were an employee I’d prefer to find out ASAP even if it meant a few details are slightly wrong so I can get applications out immediately to other carriers.

Re: Minority stake of WJ sold
Onex paid about 3.5 billion and assumed debt which put the total transaction value around 5 billion at the time of purchase. There is a bit of a mix between USD and CAD. The valuation is 2.2b USD or 3.1b CAD I'm surprised WS has gone down in value since the takeover. 2.2 Billion for a company with ...

We can have days where 5 pilots end up on GDIP in the day the compay isn’t going to bother with the paper work to only lay off 5 pilots. It’s barely a rounding error

Oh I’m sorry, I misunderstood you. You meant terrifying for the accountants who have to square the additional cost of training. Look, you’re correct. Canada’s system was not designed to handle European, Asian and until not too long ago American style Cessna to Airbus type of training. But then say ...

It’s also terrifying if buddy in the left seat has an incapacitation event and the right seat has 10 hour TT above 4000’. The Europe argument doesn’t work because they have a much much more in depth theory side as well as training to be airline pilots from day 1. In Canada the system was built to go...

I don’t think Flair is going to be the only operation reevaluating their 2025 plans, I’d imagine this is industry wide in Canada this year.

Re: Tariffs on Boeing...?
With tariffs causing turbulence in trade between Canada and the United States, I believe we’ll soon see more people adopting a "Buy Canadian" mindset, or at least a “Don’t Buy American” attitude. This sentiment will likely reach the higher-ups at Big Red. If the tariffs on Boeing planes remain in p...

Re: Any planned hiring this year?
Probably the best advice right now is if you are at a place you don’t mind it’s worth staying at your current company. Every airline is going to be affected by the tariffs and I bet even high level execs at the companies don’t know what things will look like in 3/6/12 months from now. It could be a ...

Re: How Will Canadian Airlines Be Affected by The Trade War
It sounds like it is a 75% drop in bookings to the US. How does that affect.... AC WJ Porter Flair AT Anyone else? I guess the least we can do is use Canadian carriers if we fly down there instead of UA, AA, DL, etc. AC - Long haul flying will probably be stronger going forward Domestic stronger CA...

The dairy & cheese quota was put in place to give Canadian farmers a chance to make a living & have a stable income. I guess you could say go ahead & get rid of it & while we’re at it let foreign pilots fly Canadian aircraft & non Canadian airlines service Canada because heck they could do it cheap...

Re: 25% Tariff on all non US made Autos.
We should toss the US auto protectionism if the integrated sector is all over. The sooner the better. I'm holding out to get one of the first run of Canadians built Toyota Hilux, hopefully with the 4D4 turbo-diesel. Cheaper, more capable, more reliable than Tacomas. Just bring in the same cars as i...

I don’t have any insight to the company specifically but with tariffs going on I’m sure all airlines are reevaluating hiring plans and adjusting capacity so any answer you get today could be very different than what it looks like a month from now.

I’m also curious what the certification standard is for the aircraft’s gear. From the report: "The MLG shock struts on this aircraft are designed to absorb the energy of a 720 fpm (12 fps) descent velocity at the maximum landing weight." The FAA certification standard is 10fps. When doing a search ...

It also doesn’t help that with the angle of roll all of the impact would have been on only one main not spread out across both. 3G’s is a very hard landing but I am still curious if there was fatigue that lead to the catastrophic failure. I’m also curious what the certification standard is for the a...
