Re: Smart wings ACMI?

Considering we are sending 5 airplanes/crew to Prague to fly for them all summer, I doubt it. But stranger things have happened.

Re: PAL Q

Things in YHZ are good. All AC flying as mentioned above. Right now just 2 day pairings. Usually 3 flights a day. Combination of return flights to YOW YDF YQX and YYR. It’s very much an AC operation, feels like my old days at Air Nova. (I didn’t come here from JAZZ, just for the record) The AC CSR’...

Re: Losing another tail?

You mean to tell me one of the most sought after aircraft has been sitting for a year in YYZ. Find that very hard to believe. Do you have any references for this? Those four previous aircraft would have been exported within short order. I thought it was strange as well but it is true. I was approac...

Re: 1200TT pilot with jet time advice

Thanks for the tip @MD11, I will probably look into corporate flying before turboprops. The idea of a bond is not something that I can bear honestly, unless the gig is really good. Jazz is a great option but only if I get the jet time. Heard that you can’t really bid or pick your base/fleet so gett...

Re: Emirates or Air Canada

15 million saved? In 25 years? You'd have to sock away/have your investments perform to a tune of an average of $600,000/yr in accumulation. That doesn't sound realistic. I’ve a few friends currently at EK and 15 M doesn’t sound too outrageous with compound interest and if a very aggressively well ...

If it flew for 20 mins with nobody in it, it was far better rigged than every small airplane I’ve flown.

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

Yea - but could a cadet even fly Westjet mainline legally? I imagine Westjet would need to make a bunch of changes, including paying a higher insurace premium. Define bunch of changes? The only one I can think of is the one you listed. Nearly every company has lowered their hiring minimums lately. ...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

Hope its gonna be a fair " merge" . I think some westjet pilots still thinking they can Take all the benefits of the merge...and leave swg pilots behind But lets not forget its not westjet that is in command here..its a business company Onex who decided to merge 2 airlines ... What are the benefits...

Re: Invites for 2024 GS?

What will be interesting is after the merger the low time Sunwing guys that I’ve heard they’ve been hiring a lot of lately will likely not be able to fly at WJ. Perhaps the plan will be to offer them a position at Encore, and hence solve some of Encore’s staffing issues (for FOs anyway). I can’t se...

Re: Flair pilot program

I guess there's a consensus on this program from you guys eh? One big item is I will not be taking on debt to finance this adventure. I was able to move to a smaller town and pocket a very tidy profit on my house, which is making this (admitted) gamble possible. Looking on PCC, a year 1 FO is at ~7...

Re: Flair pilot program

Ant, I've been all through these forums, I've seen all kinds of different opinions on this and similar programs. It's unethical to go through an intensive training process, still work through all the ratings, same as anybody else? The difference being the ability to avoid working in the north on sk...

Re: Flair pilot program

Fanblade, I do not have a degree, which i believe would keep me out of Jazz Approach and possibly the AT program as well. I am an electrician by trade, although I have moved on to Project Management the last few years. I have been thinking quite a lot about how to gain enough PIC time while working...

Re: New hire bids

I wonder what the experience level of this class of new hires is ? I was at a gathering last summer, and met two new hires; one of whom was under 1000TT (750, iirc?) all instructing. Can’t remember if there was any MIFR time. Father was a jazz pilot, so not sure if the time was representative of ne...

Besides equipment issues I would imagine they were extremely short handed on the ramp as well. Not many people are going to work outside when it’s below -40 for $15/hr.

Depends on where you work. I have a friend who dispatches at Air Canada and it seems like a pretty good job that pays well. If you’re dispatching for Pat and Flo in YQX then not so much. 😂

DO NOT DO IT! Signing any type of training bond is far from ideal but paying money up front is a big NO! Move along, another opportunity will come up. It may involve moving out of your parents house though.

I expect fish4life is correct that prices will fall in the next 2 years.
+1. For an airplane or a boat if you can’t buy it twice you can’t afford it.
