Re: Crash at Brenda Mines on BC Highway 97

would a dhc 2 that old still develop 400 horsepower at sea level? The report said something like the powerplant was still developing turns(cutting thru a 7 inch logpole pine); and certainly it was a hot day, but i fail to understand failure to get at least 6000 ft asl before even attempting to turn ...

Re: Air Nootka Beaver missing near Tofino BC - Aug 16 2013

in my first post, i was going from what the right hand passenger(Young)had said, that the pilot indicated in his mayday that they were going down. After the mayday, young saw the tree coming up. i think it was power loss or worse.

i will be very interested in the report once it comes out. Power settings, passenger interviews, any logs that survived the fire. Weights, maintenance, scheduling considerations. The weather already looks like a major factor.

Re: Air Nootka Beaver missing near Tofino BC - Aug 16 2013

according to a Province story 2 hrs. ago, the beaver was 'going down', in the words of the pilot(still un-named pending next of kin). According to mr. young, a survivor in the right hand seat, an attempt was underway to cross the peninsula.

Re: Another plane crash near Brenda Mine west of Kelowna

... actually, mr. telo's plane was right on track, just a lot earlier in the flight than the searchers expected. c.f.i.t. in the case of the twin, it appears to have flown down the lake to get some safe altitude before heading west, but that is mere conjecture. one is tempted to say the density alti...

Re: Another plane crash near Brenda Mine west of Kelowna

cncpc: what i was trying to get across was that it would indeed be a shame if the incident we are discussing in this thread is a repeat of mr. telo's type of mishap when he couldn't outclimb apex mountain. That was in a single comanche fully loaded, high temps., forestfire haze. They took days to fi...

... i would like to see the t.s.b. attribute this tragedy to some sort of human error/errors. Not for assignment of blame, but to more easily enter prediction into future flying. It is hoped the survivors will shed some light on this so we can all benefit. Airplanes, depending on their state of main...

Re: Report Out on PC Goose Crash Out of Hardy

as an aside, i drew such immediate fire for posting a postulate regarding TIME being a major issue related to pilot error, i'm drawn to suspect it was too true for some. Head bashing would be a preferred sport, as opposed to real discourse on the root attending pilot error. i also think pilots shoul...

... that a failure to give one's self time for a needed task is a common root of pilot error. It seems established that pilot error played the starring rôle in this instance, and one wonders how the pilot found short-cuts, that were dangerous, as necessary to carry out his mission. If he was well en...

Re: Report Out on PC Goose Crash Out of Hardy

i'm new at this site, and am not a pilot, altho' i do a lot of flight simming, and have a grasp of many issues about flight characteristics. But it seems a most important issue, that always leads to woe, is a refusal to deal with TIME. A seemingly invisible component that will always throw a wrench ...
