Re: Does anyone bother to register+test their 406Mhz ELT?

Not all ELT's have a battery(ies) in the remote switch. Artex 345 Elt's simply have a remote switch no battery required. You do have to have a wiring harness made from the ELT to the switch. It also has a loud pizo buzzer that lets you know when its active. Test gives you a series of beeps and or fl...

Re: South River Accident

With some limited personal insight, if TC eliminates everything else, and the conditions for icing are there, they may suggest it as a potential cause factor but not a definitive finding.

Re: Check that Seat is Properly Latched

The secondary seat stop from Cessna is still available. You must pay an approx 2000.00 deposit which is returned once you send them a copy of a log book entry showing the device was installed. With it installed it should be checked for proper operation on a regular basis. With the pins in the holes ...

Re: Buttonville CYKZ C172 Crash August 24, 2020

As a student you are under supervision of an instructor. If anyone is haunted by this it will be the instructor. It could have ended worse than it did, thankfully it did not. It would be interesting to learn why, once things went sideways (both figuratively and literally), the student made the decis...

While we're holding empathetic thoughts for Mr Bryant and his daughter and their family, I'm sure we are also thinking of the families of the other seven victims, and, all of the emergency services personnel who arrived to find the sad scene, and, the ATC people who realized that a pilot they had j...

Re: AME course/license for ones own aircraft

As noted it is not practical for one aircraft. Not only is it expensive and time consuming to get the license (4 years is the minimum, practically it may take longer, potentially much longer) but once licensed there is a recurrency requirement to keep the license. Working on one airplane a year will...

Re: If a chopper is going to crash....hide

It appears that the forward cowl is not in place. I wonder if this was a maintenance ground run which got a bit out of hand. Perhaps it was a deliberate action to try to back onto the dolly and get it over with - don't try to back onto a dolly! I suspect you are correct. A little ways into the vide...

Re: Emergency Landing in the Bush

It's great that it ended well for Chad. These are the stories I like to hear about. The detail that bothers me is the fact he ran out of fuel. [sarcasm font] He didn't run out of fuel, he ran low on fuel! "The pilot stated he experienced a loss of power due to running low on fuel ..." [/sarcasm font]

Re: Stuck starter contactor: what to look for

A stuck starter contactor is a serious problem in any piston engine - so much so, that in the UK, it has been a requirement to have a "starter engaged" warning light, to indicate such a failure to the pilot. Fortunately in the Lycoming, and small Continental designs, there is still an over running ...

Musketeer. The force of the impact resulted in the engine being about 500 feet away from this pile of debris, no prop, no mount.

Re: TBO 2000?

While you can go beyond TBO, do not think this means no major work. If an engine gets to 5000 hours it will still likely have gone through a number of cylinder changes, mag rebuilds, etc along the way. Plus there will be the lesser costs such as generator rebuilds, vacuum pumps, etc.
