Re: Hiring outlook

What's the flow speed now ? Still 3 years and 1 month for a brand new FO ? Hiring is starting again in April. I asked management for a friend who is waiting. Current flow as of last week is 3 years and 1 month. I have been keeping tabs on attrition at Encore by crossing names of the list at Encore a...

Oh yes, now I remember.

Re: Camera’s in the cockpit - watching YOU

If it was found through the video to be pilot negligence or jncompetence,
Would the Maxes still have been grounded?

Rip to the people who perished, and peace to the families.

Good to see they ask questions about things that happen very frequently.

Re: Camera’s in the cockpit - watching YOU

No, not super necessary, but extremely inexpensive and potentially useful.
If a car has a $100 dash cam, why would a 50 million dollar airplane not have a few?

It sure would be helpful if we saw exactly what happened on the Max crashes.

Re: Autoland in a Piper

Didn't watch the video, but I'm sure the FOs i fly with are wondering if it has smart screen capability to live stream the approach and check facebook as they listen to tunes on their bluetooth headset? Can't wait for auto-taxi and auto-takeoff capability. The aforementioned FOs would turn on the AP...

Re: picking up extra flying work on a different company during off days

Hey Everyone, I have just started interview process as a flight instructor. I am curious about this and Just wanted you to ask pilots of encore and westjet. If I somehow get in to the company and I start working I am hoping to keep my instructor job. also where I work we have some king air type air...

Re: Scariest time as a pilot

My automation tries to kill me at least 6 times every flight !
Sometimes i even have to use speedbrakes! Crazy arrival profiles!
I'm drenched in sweat at the end of every flight because my life was on the line.

Re: Future 797 single pilot?

On a typical flight, I would have to intervene with the automation at least a half dozen times to prevent an Undesirable Aircraft State. If the automation was 100% reliable, why would there be a need for speed brakes, pilot intervention on TCAS events, weather deviations that ATC can't see, Ice cry...

Re: Future 797 single pilot?

I think it will happen. Just look at how many planes could have been saved if there was an override from the ground. Paine Stewart, Helios, Germanwings, heck... the four airliners in 9/11. And if you can override or even operate the flight from the ground... with one operator managing several aircr...

Re: Future 797 single pilot?

I understand that some pilots would not wish to fly single pilot, with or without a link to a second pilot on the ground. I don't think we will see the disappearance of two pilot aircraft anytime soon. Can you imagine the ETOPS certification process? Personally though, if my airline had a single pi...

Sure, YYZ - GRU - YYZ, YYZ-SCL-YYZ, YYZ-GIG-YYZ. Been der dun dat with no AT. AP is required for RVSM, whereas A/THR is not. The above question was with regards to AP no? No, the discussion is about the need for multiple crew when automation is not available on a 10 or 11 hour flight. While AP is r...

Re: Future 797 single pilot?

if you're saying its cause of the cost of having the 1 pilot on board vs 2 and having 1 pilot on the ground. They would soon find a way to have that 1 pilot being the 2nd pilot on more then 1 airplane at a time. Thats where the real savings would be. Even if the ground pilot handled four aircraft, ...

I'm afaid it makes me quite cynical when I see that it's (of course) airline CEOs that are the main driver towards this. There is simply no rational safety-case to be made in favour of this arrangement. I just think it would be a really, really boring job. All the reasons I ever wanted to be an avi...
