Re: If you had the money...

Hands down, it would be a full motion jet simulator in my basement.

Now, what KIND of jet simulator, that is the question - First world problems!

Re: Buying Safety....$$$$$?

I've always liked the idea of learning to fly as an apprenticeship process. It's certainly a safer, less stressful, way to go. Unfortunately, for me, this was never the case. Much of my "experience" was learned at my unknowing passengers' expense. I have to say that the most difficult flying job I e...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

Non-Transfer of PPC's wouldn't solve the problem, as pilots would still get typed at FSI, and then if they jump ship, would only be responsible for doing a PPC ride in the SIM. That would still represent a significant savings on a $50,000 (or less) type rating. I still think that if the employer is ...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

Pay the guy that put up the bucks to teach your dumb ass something if you leave early, SIMPLE!!! Type ratings can cost up to $55,000. What pilot has got that kind of cash to pay back? Let's say for sake of argument, it costs $10,000 for a type. Last time I checked, pilots incur huge debts acquiring...

Re: Help please - cruising speed of Citation V vs Citation U

You will easily break 400 KTAS. My Ultra did 420 TAS up to FL 410. If you're not breaking 400 KTAS, in a V Ultra or better, you need to find out what is wrong with that aircraft. For flight planning, we always used 420 KTAS.

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

DOC wrote: "It's indentured servitude. Removes "freedom of choice" from pilots." It's totally a form of indentured servitude. That's why it needs to be legislated out. If you don't see this aspect of the practice, then why don't we just do away with all labour laws and let the companies do with the...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

It's their 'cost of doing business'. I especially like this one. How exactly do you design a business model when you cannot determine (reasonably) the cost of a major component of the operation. Do you run the numbers for training 2 pilots a year for one required position? Do you plan to train 4 pi...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

Just remember too that loyalty goes both ways. What does an employer provide if they decide they no longer need you? :prayer: Simple, and Elegant. You hit the nail on the head. Ask same employer to sign a "pilot bond," protecting the pilot against unnecessary hardship, and you will find yourself be...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

If training bonds mean the difference between a company staying alive, and going under, then perhaps they need to re-examine their business model. If your bottom line is that razor thin, then you really need to sharpen your hiring practices and find the right fit for your organization. If your compa...

Re: ALPA's Position on Training Bonds

I agree with you, and I am against bonds in ANY form. The problem resides in the fact that pilot/AME training is a cost of doing business for a company, yet the companies treat it as if the training is a source of income for the pilot. Unfortunately, most pilots view this the same way as well - "If ...

Don't worry, the inevitable stock market crash and economic depression coming this year will balance out the demand for all those pilots.

In Memory of Suncor Pilot, Myron Dyck & Fellow Aviators

I'll be participating in a 2-day major cycling event called the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Alberta Cancer Foundation. I'm doing this in on behalf of the the Aviation Industry in honor of all those who we know, or have known, who have been profoundly touched or impacted by this di...

Re: Pilots: Stay Safe, Know Your Rights

I am currently involved in litigation over training costs with my former employer and so far it is not looking good. It appears to be cheaper to settle for half the bill ($20,000) to get the employer off my back vs paying more than that to take it to court. Something not right about that. Pilots nee...

LogTen Pro iPhone. Its pricey, but its the best, and will probably still be around 10 years from now. You can download it from the app store for free and log 40 flight hours before you have to buy it.
