Re: Things to keep in mind as an apprentice?
sounds like you have your head in the right spot, I'm sure you'll do fine. like the other guys have mentioned don't stand around and do nothing, if you are not sure what needs to be done just ask someone. -volunteer for the crappy jobs, you'll get huge respect from your crew. -if you break/damage s...

What the heck have I said that could've possibly "hurt your feelings" W tf ever! Who said you hurt my feelings??? read what I wrote again - I said "it would take a lot to hurt my feelings". I think reading it completely, would help. Also, the response was to TS, not everything written revolves arou...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
Boot...it's you that brought insurance up. Yes, and insurance is within context for something he should consider before "hoping" that he defuels/fuels the right way inside a hangar. I was referring to the "common sense" discussions. it is pretty obvious to me we will not see eye to eye and that's o...

What r u talking about...I see what they mean? Doing it right is irrelevant ...that was your response to my post that you quoted...am I not allowed to respond if I disagree? Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
it is a matter of what you (and your insurance company) consider acceptable risk... Really? Does your Adjuster have an office in your shop? Are you supposed to call and ask anytime you might do something "risky"? Did insurance cover AirSpray's losses? This is why my coffee cup says "HOT! Be careful...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
Sure, it is a calculated risk to bungee jump from a bridge yet all bungee jump companies make you sign a waiver so you can't sue and your personal insurance company won't cover anything should the 1 in a million bungee snap happen. Your family gets to bear the cost of the shovel used to scrap your ...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
Why? If you can have fueled aircraft in a hangar why couldn't you de-fuel in a hangar. Electrical safety code and WSIB ensures you take the necessary precautions if you are an AMO. Why not? Good idea? It's not a good idea to jump from a bridge but bungi jumping is pretty popular! Do it right...no p...

Re: Defueling aircraft in hanger
This is usually not a common practice. It also most likely invalidates any insurance policy. I think you will find it in the local airport directives that you are not allowed to park a fuel truck within 50ft of a hangar, so I can't see them authorizing you to defuel inside the hangar. YYZ airport di...

and when did Mohawk start doing Avionics basic training? They're not listed yet. Well, last time I talked with them it was the route they were going... I guess it hasn't been approved yet. common first year, then individual trades the following year. I'll have to ask next time I visit the college...

Re: Ame M - can I not get E after M?
Ive been told that you can obtain your E license and then complete ics to also obtain your M. Is it not possible the other way around? If i wanted to go back for another year in college to study avionics can i not then go for my E after already ontaining an M? if you have an E licence, then you can...

Re: Time to pay up tuition and get in kids..
The margins in aviation are the tightest of all the large industries...hence all the ups and downs, lay-offs, etc... ...and this is the real issue with the industry. If the airlines/charter/MRO were to charge more for their services (so we can get a raise), the customer will take there airplane to ...

3 days later, his airplane goes down into a school yard full of children. lots of casualties, due to the resulting fire and explosion. last name in the book was I.P. Re: Owner qualified?
the part of this scenario that bugs me is this... yes it is a liability/livelyhood concern. owner removes the prop but asks you to reinstall it. you do that and sign for reinstalling the prop (signing only for the work you have done). alls good. 3 days later, his airplane goes down into a school yar...

Re: Shop Labour Rates in Canada
GO AHEAD AND TAKE YOUR AIRCRAFT TO MEXICO OR THE U.S. FOR CHEAPER RATES, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND GOOD LUCK GETTING THEM TO COME UP TO YOU IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AFTERWARDS. +1 i agree with you... however this is the realistic problem facing aviation. globalization, government bodies accepting o...

$110/hr sorry that is to get your 4 wheeler repaired $65/hr to get your airplane fixed i think that kind of says it all thats because you wont drive your 4 wheeler to mexico and have it repaired for $25 an hour.... if you try and charge $110/hr to repair an aircraft in canada, mexico (or the states...

Re: Wind turbines around airports
Troubleshot, thanks for all the info on wind turbines. It doesn't speak well for your info though when you claim that you can maintain a turbine for $1800 a year, and then later admit that the $1800 doesn't cover labour or parts. Using your math I can maintain my car for $220 a year. In reality it'...

Let's try to get this thread remotely back on topic, shall we? I even have some constructive input! Pearson is going to kick out all GA aviation sooner rather than later. So is Buttonville. If you want to operate a corporate jet in the GTA, eventually your choices are going to be Hamilton - where i...

don't get me wrong, i don't think we get paid enough for what we do, but there is a reason that it happens. the customer - you, me, everyone who flies is an @$$hole. think back to the last trip you flew on. did you look for the cheapest flight? bet you didn't look for the expensive flight. my wife f...
