Re: Warren Buffet isn't so pessimistic about aviation....
It's pretty much a standard Warren Buffet style move. Find a venture that's got long term viability. Maximize the long term returns. There is no better time to get rock bottom prices and favourable terms than today. If fleet renewal is appropriate, an investment today is a wise move. What will be in...

While I don't think drill sargent techniques are needed 24/7, there is a lot to be said for controlled stress. Simulated or safely managed stress can be a damned good teacher. Done right, it teaches you about that specific skill, and also teaches you that you can deal with stress.

Re: Ice Pilots - Season 3
Can I ask a stupid question without starting a poopstorm? With regards to Gord and the PPC, my question is this. Besides bragging rights, with the numbers of C46's in the marketplace, does getting this PPC under his belt do anything for Gord long term? I am naively assuming that without some ongoing...

Re: Prozak Pilot may fly again
The physical side effects of modern SSRIs are usually minimal. By minimal I mean less than the side effects of drinking one or two cups of coffee and pilots do consume that all the time. here's what my "ignorant uniformed attitude" told me about SSRIs and their side effects: Most people prescribed ...

I got it from a very reliable source that the next aircraft Viking is going to put back into production is the Buffalo. Of course it will have different engines and modern cockpit. Their rational is that there is pent up demand for this type of machine. They own the type certificate. I agree. The o...

Abdullah is an Arabic name, and no Arabs dont "speak Muslim". The word Allah is a pre Islamic word, and Arabs the world over have that name, including Druze Christians and even some Jews from Arab countries. Jesus when he called to God said "Ya Allah" not dear lord or whatever latin term has been u...

Re: Man stands throughout 7-hour flight
Interesting issue. My wife and I had a flight last winter to the Carribeans and one of the passager was grossly overweight in the 737-600. He occupied an aisle seat and required a seat belt extension. The passenger in the middle seat was in the same situation as the above fellow. After take off, th...

When the electricity went off, it caused a problem with the boiler. The power came back on, but for some reason they couldn't get the boiler restarted. That is why they needed to heat the hangar with the portable heaters. The fuel master probably tripped as the power cycled while the power cut, the...

Re: Cost of ownership - Piston vs Tubine
Turbines are always more expensive. Overhauls, components and even the oil used is more expensive. Also, you need type training on the turbine engine. OK, so is there any trade off or selling point besides fuel cost and availability? As in, is the turn around time better? Is the time between servic...

Cost of ownership - Piston vs Tubine
I am trying to wrap my head around the costs of operating an aircraft. I realize that this isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison, but with all other factors being equal, is there a signifigant difference in the ongoing operating costs of similar power turbine vs piston engines? For a small co...

They could insist the customer keep a large balance in a brokerage account to cover purchases. Instead, they offer the customer spot financing to cove...

Helipad requirements for hospitals?
Just curious, but what does it take to build and approve a helipad for a hospital? MrsC and I were discussing the matter, wondering why the local hospital having spent a bomb on renovations would not have included a helipad. The local airfield is 10-15 minutes away, but with ambulance transfer times...

OK, the reality is it really doesn't matter what colour the candidate is for me. If Obama was my brother I'd still think he's slime. Cain could bugger goats after lights out and so far, I'd still overlook it based on his accomplishments and his philosophy. What I'd be curious to see is how many of t...

Herman Cain is looking interesting. Solid business background. Knows how to speak without a teleprompter.
If he was to get the Republican nomination, it would be very interesting to see how the black vote plays out.

However, I can't help but note that if these people put the same amount of effort and fervour into working, they might find thier list of grievances was considerably shorter. What makes you think they don't put the same amount of effort and fervour into working? Fourty+ years of observation, leadin...
