Re: Morningstar
Just noticed a little discrepancy.. on the Av Canada posting, it references a "preference" for an already received 757 type rating, but if you click the application link the hiring page says "must be type rated to qualify for this position" slightly different scenarios there.. I wonder which is the ...

Re: Survey Pilot/Camera Operator in jobs Forum
Theres some good info here. For all of you low timers worried about quals, etc: give it a chance. One size of answer doesn't fit all operators: some will be rigid on requirements, some won't. Some will appreciate a phone call, some won't. Almost all have insurance requirements, but you don't know ho...

Not just this operator.. but there is always the option of not dispatching that plane. I may be mistaken, but was there freezing rain around at the time? Can’t recall, but... I’ve had this convo before.. wx may be ok on the ground but am I in the crap for the whole approach? Will I be able to shed t...

FAA ATPL Conversion new regs
Just curious, with the new regs now in place, has anyone actually gone and done their ATPL conversion under the new rules yet (convert TC ATPL to FAA)? If so, what was the experience like, and how long did it take?
Has anyone tried to write the new ACM exam yet under the new rules?

Re: Overdue Cargo Airplane Bound for CYXS
Have a few thousand hours (loooong time ago) in those machines. Very unforgiving in ice, almost no climb if they were at gross weight. I flew that corridor a few times that day (albeit in a Q400) and there were high winds aloft (80+kts@15000 which is lower alt than usual), although it wasn't all tha...

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Hmm..... Very interesting reading here. Just curious about the sim eval thing. I did one at Jazz. They have quite a few options for sim evals, although the scheduling can be really tight. They can do them in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal. Their Q400 sim is in (CAE) Montreal, and for now it is the one...

Jazz crew on company deadhead (on shift) are PY2/J10. Not confirmed J, but space available. Positive space Y class (with a do not deplane notation), upgradeable.

Re: Just curious
Unfortunately Jazz could never set out on its own. There are a few insurmountable problems. We don't have any marketing, ticketing or reservations infrastructure or experience s. Thats not necessarily true..... people forget that the majority of our history has been at-risk flying. There very much ...

Re: Question for Q drivers
Q400 max TO is 65,400, MLW is 62,000, ZFW is 58,000. Typically we burn around 900-1100pph per side in cruise depending on the profile we are using for that flight. I won't get in to how we determine cruise profiles, but those are the figures you will see at FL250 or 240. The numbers increase quite a...

Re: Odyssey Airlines about to be???
Odyssey....I remember those guys. Glory days of Canadian charter companies (I was with Points of Call)... tragic story is, after Odyssey folded, a bunch of crew went over to Nationair and I believe some of them were on MXQ in Jeddah. Tragic.

Re: Is Jazz prohibited from cancelling IFR?
As a Jazz Q400 pilot (you know, Lurch, not a transport category aircraft but an old prop puddle jumper...sheesh), I have been reading this with some measure of head-shaking and disbelief at some of the utter nonsense being posted out there. The amount of "You don't fly here so you don't know anythin...

Jumpseat
We all know that it is more fun to dwell on the negativity sometimes, but..... This Jazz pilot would just like to give a shout out to the very kind AC crew that allowed me the jumpseat from Vancouver to Calgary yesterday.. the day had started off on quite the wrong foot for me for unrelated reasons,...
