Re: Express Pilots VS Mainline Pilots
I also don't see how being good enough to "represent" Air Canada means that you may somehow not be a good "fit" for Air Canada. Call a spade a, you're either good enough to wear that uniform, or you're not. No, no you are not. If you are working at an express carrier, you are wearing a similar unif...

Re: Express Pilots VS Mainline Pilots
I'm not sure exactly what you're upset about in your post? The hiring practice the last 2 years have been incredibly favorable to people like yourself working for the express carriers. If you are at one of these carriers you likely have had an interview or likely have your name in the cue. Your argu...

Re: New TA?
When you say "In fact if you look at the pension estimator if you take the additional payments made through the MEPP plan vs. DC and you factor that additional payment into the DC plan (say into a separate investment vehicle) the difference between the 2 plans is near 0." You are making assumptions...

Re: New TA?
The company contributes a higher percentage than the employee. It really is a very very good DC pension. Not a DC pension to start with. What someone was referring to was the pension payout is higher than the DC because the employee/employer pay into it more since there is no ITA limits. In fact if...

FPOKA, it sure sounds like you are looking for a better lifestyle position that will preserve your mental and physical state. While I do agree that AC has a wide variety in flying that you certainly can achieve your goal, I know first hand that in order to achieve this you will need to make sacrific...

Re: Air Canada Pool
300+ vacancies over the next year Only 10% of those spots are for external hires. That leaves 30 positions. Application was open for 30 days and I've been told they received over 1000 "qualified" applications. 30 spots for 1000 pilots. A degree is easy way to narrow down that list. Edited to add- Ca...

Re: Air Canada Pool
Cndpilot, way to read only the last sentence of my post. My entire statement was exactly what you so kindly pointed out. AC can hire WHO they want. Meaning they are not keeping the last 20% open to be kind to the military folks. Quite frankly, take your own advise from your previous post. My opinion...

Re: Air Canada Pool
AC would love it if that could be the only way in but they need to save space for military and the odd OTS person that for whatever reason could not go the express route Again, please explain why AC "needs" to reserve spots for military guys? They could have easily made it 100% from express carrier...

Well you're dillusional then if you think YYJ won't be operated by a Q400 sooner than later. Comparing YYJ to YVR route? Really? Sigh.... And yes congrats on making a point that certain destinations are served by a bigger aircraft during peak season. Pretty sure every other airline in the world does...

Re: Updated logo and 767 preview
A traveler flying YYC to YYJ for example buys a ticket on AC for $10 less (what a deal!) then gets on the plane and finds out its a Q400. Back in the 90's some still remember that this was served with a BAC146 by AirBC. The traveller then deeply regrets their decision and next time books WJ and fly...

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Hi There As for the WJ ots question - yes we are continuing to do a handfull of interviews. We are only looking at 2 WJ classes in the first quarter and expecting 50% flow from WJE. I thought we might open the posting again, but for the amount of hiring in Q1 - there really isn't a need to just yet...

Re: ACPA approves Business Class at rouge
Help me understand your reasoning.
Being a million miler you are mad about the rouge business product so instead of booking a "business seat" (term used loosely) you'd rather sit in a seat at WJ that offers 2 more inches over rouge?

Re: Worth the move?
20k a month? That's absolute bs. way more to that story here then what's being told to potential jazz candidates. 20,000/$110 is 182 credit hours 182 - 82 regular block is 100 hours. Even 100 hours at 1.5 is Working an extra 66 hours! I recall average pairing productivity at Jazz around 4.5-5 hours ...

Re: Hiring Clarification
Had a buddy at Jazz just tell me that if you put your name on the Pilot Mobility List (PML) and decline a position at AC you will remain at Jazz but put onto the new (shittier) payscale. Who comes up with this stuff? This was made clear during the jazz roadshows. Idea being only those who want to s...

Re: 767 to SYD/MEL
with 5 767's coming on board would WS be looking at possibly a 767 continuing from HNL to MEL/SYD as most of Europe is already covered they would have the only 1 stop to MEL from canada? Doubtful. Sorry to tell you but this isn't a new ground breaking idea. Canadian/AC did the SYD route before they...

Re: 767 cockpit
for a "temporary" airplane the cost of refurbishing a 767 cockpit will fair out weigh the cost of an entire initial 787 course for pilots.
and seeing as WJ won't even spend the cash for PDC's I doubt they would ever consider this idea.

1. yes, you are whining. You want change? Let me ask you, what are you going to change by complaining on a forum? Go talk to your association. Tell them your concerns. Have them bring it up with an ACPA representative. Have them call the person in charge of the reciprocal jumpseat at AC. Posting on ...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line
AC pilots who JS on WJ could possibly start asking the powers that be to start making some changes. Would hate to see WJ start putting restrictions on you. We need to help each other and it should be equally fair. Sure, and while we're on the discussion of "FAIR"... AC might as well limit the recip...
