Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
KF hasn't laid off pilots in ages That's fine, but this is not a KF thread. For some reason, THAT company always gets brought up when Cargojet is mentioned. From what I know, KFC is no rose either. Anyways, best of luck to the Cargojet crews and maintenance folks. They are some great people. Keep y...

Re: Radio & GPS for a J3
The plane did have a handheld radio that hooks up to an external antenna, but for some reason (maybe operator error) it would recieve, but not broadcast. My guess is that the battery was pretty much frozen from being in the plane all night, and couldn't produce enough juice to broadcast. You're pro...

x2 on the super cub. You can not go wrong with the PA18. I did my conversion to tailwheel in the Super. I am know flying a J3. Love them both, but I am not a fan of heel brakes. Getting back on topic, I would have to say the old PA25 Pawnee.I spent a lot of time towing gliders in this airplane. Yes...

Thanks for the post....Its nice to see the interest in warbirds on these forums. The spit is one of aviations most beautiful airplanes, even though her only purpose was war.
As a "home defence" fighter, she was unmatched.

Hmmmm....perhaps a little respect for someone making a go of it is in order here. You never know who's door your going to be walking through with a resume in hand. +1..Give him some credit. At least he has the guts to do all the necessary work of a start-up. You know, the world is full of people wh...

Re: low time pilot looking for advice
Why do you feel you deserve this "real" flying job? How much research did you do when you started your flying and college program on job prospects when you finished? You mentioned pilot shortage...nuff said. You spend 50K on all your licenses and diploma, what is a $2-3000 on a road trip across the...

Re: Plane crashes into crowd at Reno air races
[quote="robertsailor1"]Most of the WW2 aircraft shared the same seats. I believe the Mustang shared the same seat as the Stearman which is an up/down adjusting seat running on two vertical pipes with several holes that can be selected by pulling out the spring loaded pin and resetting it in another ...

Re: Canadian Air and Space Museum evicted
I have flown into Downsview and went to this museum a few times. It is also about the historic buildings as well as the contents. This museum needs to remain open for all of us to enjoy. Yes it is at Downsview and there is nothing fun or enjoyable about driving anywhere in the vicinity of Toronto. T...

Re: Do AME's get saddled with Bonds
This is not a bond because of the pure fact you are paying for it. I have heard of some companies(the ones flying the heavy Iron) make their AME's sign a bond when they get put on an endorsement course. These are usually 6 weeks long and the AME is still getting paid, so the company has invested tim...

Re: Kelowna flightcraft questions
Pilots are treated like crap too. However, if you dont mind violating CARS you might get treated a little better. A company that violates CAR's doesn't stick around for 40 years. Plus you've just insulted every pilot in that company. I happen to know quite a few of them and they are one of the most...

There are a few very good instructors at WWFC in ykf. Availability of the airplane was never a concern for me, instructors always needed some time ahead to book! Re: Canadian Flyers inc or Island air flight school
I took a look at Canadian flyers first and then compared to the Island. The pricing as far as their services seems different but in the big picture it will cost more less the same (it's all pay me now or pay me later game). If you do not know anybody to recommend the instructor it will be a bit tou...

Re: really WWFC?
Let me sum up WWFC as of the last year. A great club with a long, proud history. The current CFI(MS) is really downgrading the club. He thinks he is running a 705 operation. His interviews confirm this and the fact that his real world flying knowledge is non existant. He likes young Class 4's who ar...

Do you remember if they were single or a twin?.....Or what colour? Harvards always come to mind in numbers like that.
I also seem to remember a Nanchang group/club from somewhere in BC in the 90's....

Anyone see or hear it? It was either a B-24 or a Lancaster.... I'd love to hear that it was a Lanc. The two look pretty similar though. Cheers, Dan They do both look similar, but sound totally different. There are no B-24s based in Canada, so that was the Lanc you saw today. If you want to see a B-...

Just because you can afford to buy a Mustang or Sky Raider doesn't mean you have the skills to fly it ........ Maybe, kinda, sorta....This is true of personel airplanes. The ones that fly for musuems of course this statement does not apply. At Duxford, I can assure you the pilots that fly there hav...

One has to remember that the pilots allowed to fly these airplanes are not Piper or Cessna "weekend warriors"Big Pistons Forever wrote:That formation break was a mess, and it was a miracle no one died........I wonder how qualified the pilots were.

Thanks Doc.......Great story. Articles like this are important for future generations to understand what these pilots went through. Remember, Britain was on her own before the US entered the war. There was the "lend-lease act", but it only went so far. 1940 to 1941 were dark times for Britain, and i...

This is often called "macular degeration" I am not a doctor, but someone who believes in a healthy diet(which a good amount of pilots don't have). You need foods high in beta-carotene and lutein(the body can not make lutein. So it can only come from foods) to maintain vision. Try foods that are brig...

In my opinion, the winds shouldn't matter, assuming we're talking about light piston singles. I've seen on a number of occasions, generally sloppy airmanship with regards to care an handling of an airplane. Most were pilots a couple dozen or a hundred hours out of flight school. Granted, the pilots...
