Re: How was in the past

The good old days. I started at Jazz in 2006 with over 3000 total time and almost 1000 multi turbine PIC. Wasted almost 8 years there. Never had the seniority to upgrade even on the Dash. Best year made maybe $75k.

Re: The E2-B NIW Visa Thread

Just thinking outside of the box; could you go to the US via Australia? Like get a job in Australia and a PR there and get a much better chance of going to a US major? Pretty sure you’d need to be an Australian citizen. One other avenue though would be the diversity lottery if you have, or are elig...

Re: I give up on Canadian airlines

FYI for all looking into going to the US. If you go there on a worker's visa, and thus get a green card, may I advise to NEVER become a US citizen. It is a guaranteed mountain of paperwork for the rest of your life, whereas a green card holder has all the benefits for none of the restrictions (minu...

Honestly, I can't think of a place in the US that would be any worse than YYZ. I was YYZ based for years and looking back on it I don't know how I did it.

Re: FAA ATP to Canadian ATPL exam questions

True. But the fact that Australians can get a work visa in the US as a pilot much easier with their specific US-AUS program, than Canada which is the northern neighbour, says a lot. I work for a US ULCC and we’re also sponsoring for H1B’s but only for Chile and Singapore. No idea why. Ground school...

Re: FAA ATP to Canadian ATPL exam questions

Hello yes I'm a Canadian expat who after getting the Canadian ATPL want to come back home and do flying in Canada. But for that I need the Canadian ATPL first, I do have an FAA ATP with A320 type rating. Crazy thing is you'll need to find a direct entry captain spot in Canada and in a few years you...

Re: FAA ATP to Canadian ATPL exam questions

What I'd like to know is how can an american get a work visa easily in Canada while a Canadian, unless you marry and get a green card, is basically impossible to get a work visa in america. Everyone is assuming hbi320 is American, I’m thinking he is a Canadian expat who needed an FAA license wherev...

Re: FAA ATP to Canadian ATPL exam questions

There are very few pilots flying in Canada that have the legal right to work in the US. There's a very good reason for that. If you have the legal right to work in the US don't waste your time with Canada. If you really want to live in Canada, commute to a US airline job.

Re: American Airlines, one of the world’s largest airlines, has announced plans to pay its pilots up to $590,000 per yea

Another point I would like to make is that I don't believe our CEO's at airlines in Canada are working for a discount. I'm fairly certain they are getting compensation equal to their American counterparts. Unfortunately the CEO’s can easily get visas to work in Canada so Canadian airlines have to c...

For part 121 captain you need 1000 hours in part 121 or 135. No exemptions that I’ve heard of.

Re: All you underpaid airline pilots...

My NIW application passed. A colleague of mine also had his pass. The only thing standing between us and a green card is a medical and interview at the consulate. The major hurdle was the NIW petition. That being said, there have been many pilots who have had their applications rejected. And the de...

I just stumbled across this forum and topic today and this is my first post as I see a lot of discussion regarding Frontier. I interviewed last month and have a CJO pending approval of the TN-1 visa in which their lawyer is working on. I am hopeful but also a bit skeptical on if it will be approved...

Re: US Regionals: 100k upfront bonus for DEC captains

As Canadian pilots we need to lobby the United States Government to require AIRLINE pilots to have an AIRLINE license to fly an AIRLINER into or over the US. Americans put in the 1500 hour rule after the Colgan Air crash. There is no reason they should let foreign pilots fly airliners into the stat...

Re: US Regionals: 100k upfront bonus for DEC captains

The catch is, of course, that in order to qualify, you need ~500 hours of P121/135 time - which none of us here in Canada have.... I hope you’re joking…. If you haven’t flown Part 121/135 in the US then you don’t have it. There’s no credit for foreign equivalency. Only a handful in Canada that qual...

Re: Insurance rates because of fiona and ian hurricanes

Probably more localized. Aircraft insurance is more expensive if you base your plane in Florida so that will likely increase. Shouldn’t affect someone with a plane hangared safely in the midwest.
