There are very few pilots flying in Canada that have the legal right to work in the US. There's a very good reason for that. If you have the legal right to work in the US don't waste your time with Canada. If you really want to live in Canada, commute to a US airline job.

I applied 2 years ago and heard nothing. Then about 6 months ago received a phone call asking if I still wanted it. I said yes and received everything a few weeks later.

Probably more localized. Aircraft insurance is more expensive if you base your plane in Florida so that will likely increase. Shouldn’t affect someone with a plane hangared safely in the midwest.
