600 operation because it's not for profit. Not really charter. The aircraft flies for any other gov department and is only "billed" for costs. Really just a paper exercise because the $$ is all coming out of the same pot at the end of the day. Not chartered to anyone other than gov.

Twin Otter co-captains for the add. Overtime is straight pay and there is opportunity for anyone wanting Some extra cash. 1 extra shift is 14hrs, time can rack up pretty quick if u want. Also, some with float time can fly the otters occasionally when the full timers max out on hours. Can be a long p...

Check the job ads for manitoba government air services. Pretty good gig. They are hiring in thompson and the job is fairly laid back for good pay and its government...need i say more? Twin otters and chieftains mostly

Apparently they don't normally hire From within. Just seems like quite a while. Think I might call and see what's up. What's the harm?

Re: Career change advice needed

Join the military if you want to fly some pretty cool stuff and do some unique and challenging flying. I've seen plenty of guys much older than you make it through. Not a recruiting thing here, but it's a pretty good life and the pay is much better than you'd probably expect. Pm me if interested. Re...

Re: Pilot in the Canadian Forces

To keep it short, ivebeen flying in the military for fifteen years since training which took 5...yup 5 years. I've got about 5000 hrs total,so not bad. The most satisfying part of the job is the type of flying. Used to fly the cp140. The worst part but most relaxing was transiting out before going o...

Would it be a good idea to electronically upload "internal reference" letters from several wj pilots willing to vouch for me? Is this on or does a hangar tour cover this?

Re: Resumes and Cover Letters Redux

I have close to 5000 hrs and 20 years in the military. I'm trying to wrap my head around the resume thing. Do I just say 1990 to present - military pilot. And then list all the positions/jobs held including duties and responsibilities? Alternatively, should I break the dates down more based on posti...

Re: CAP Gen Exams

I like 200 hr wonder's answer...I frequently test winged and almost winged military pilots, and what makes me smile most when I give them an emergency or comm fail etc is the line..."Pull out the book"...In my book, that's better than "knowing what to do" from memory. Trust me, knowing where to find...

Re: That feeling in stomach during Turbulence

Lots of tips/techniques here. I have not felt this in 4500 hrs flying, but I used to have to help backend crewmembers deal with various physiological issues when I flew Aurora's. Went to a flight surgeon for advice and he told me the best thing for me to do is not "coddle" an individual with these i...

How does the "free travel" part work? Is it strictly standby/space available, or can you book and be assured of a spot? With respect to ZED fares, how good are the fares actually? Specifically with Northwest/Delta?
Thanks

Winnipeg Porting vs Commuting

I am considering applying to WJ in the next year or so, and I would really like some input on experiences of others in porting out of Winnipeg. Is commuting a better option? With either option, how do FO's working out of Winnipeg fare wrt time off and scheduling? I value my time at home, but I also ...

Re: CANADIAN FORCES FLIGHT TRAINING : QUOTA ??

Fly the harvard! It may be the only chance you get to really fly high performance. A few months more of ojt is still pensionable and you will be better prepared to cope with higher perf aircraft out in the real world. You will not regret flying the harvard but you may regret opting for the grob. Why...
